Mark Recchi retires

I hated this man when he wasn't in a Flyers uniform, but that's because he was such a ****ing gamesman...congrats on a great career Mark. You've won cups for teams I absolutely despise. It's a shame you couldn't hoist one here.

What a career and what a way to end it.

He was awesome last night, his line with Bergeron & Marchand was the outstanding line of the series.

Way da go Mark

I assume he's going to begin his career after hockey by opening a medical clinic?

Loved watching him on the Crazy 8's line in Philly. Solid career. HHOF bound.

Congrats are in order. This guy is a warrior. Could not be happier for him (well, maybe if he was hoisting the cup in orange).

I remember the first time I saw him play in 1990-91 against the Islanders. I didn't know him from Adam, but man, by the end of that game I sure knew who he was. The guy was good, and it really used to piss me off when he would come down that right wing, kick his right skate, and snap the puck off that far post and in... but I loved it when he did it against the Rangers! A great career by the Reching Ball! ... but he always played for teams who I hate, except the Hurricanes.

I, like above mentioned, wished he would've been acquired by the Flyers that year TB signed him or traded him to Boston. No dice, but great career, one of my favorites growing up.

Congrats to a fantastic player and a great career.

Lots of people thought he was over with years ago (I personally wanted to keep him). Just goes to show what a will to work hard will do for you...

Sorry. i was just tryin to mix it up. it was gettin a little repetitive. it gets a little lame when every one on a thread has the same thought. seems pointless.

Then why don't you just mark it as read and move on?

because im insanely immature. i have alot of anger inside me about other teams winning cups, especially teams with ex players. im not personally attacking anyone but the bruins. i LOVE the Flyers. i also love NHL hockey, but my opinion gets conflicted with my love for the Flyers. you cant tell me if Gagne won this year part of you wouldnt have been like COME ON ! REALLY? the older i get, the harder it gets to watch the cup ceremony if its not us. im not sayin recchi isnt a great player. in fact when he played for us there was always Recchi night. a night where he would just take over a game and win it for us. 2003 overtime playoffs against toronto comes to mind and he did have that record year in 92 93 for us but it just seems like he won it everywhere but here. i would bet he doesnt rank us very high in his mind, especially at the end when we dumped him because of age. i dont hate him but i just thought this was a good thread to point out that its not unanimous for everyone to feel good watching explayers win with other teams.

Absolutely loved Recchi. I still say the biggest mistake Bob Clarke ever made was letting Recchi walk and signing Turner Stevenson and Mike Knuble instead. Recchi would have been an excellent mentor for Richards and Carter and I think he would have helped them excel into even better players. Recchi was absolutely fabulous for helping young players like that. He's going to be missed by Boston. Hall of Fame career no doubt....
