Or Gudbranson and Couturier. I think if we pick at 1 it's RNH but I think management likes Couturier/Larsson enough to move down and pick one of them as well.
Sorry guys, but its not going to cost Gudbranson to move up to #1.
I agree Florida would never offer that, but if we have one guy in mind, I doubt 33rd overall is going to be enough to potentially lose that player in the first 2 spots. Plus, it's unlikely our division rival Avs are going to tell us who they want and guarantee they won't take our guy.
As stated earlier, Tallon has expressed a high interest in RNH. People are just stirring the interwebs to get hits.
That would make sense if he had a website to promote. Far as I can tell he just tweets things, rarely at that.
He's been right multiple times.. Lehtonen trade, was the first on Atlanta to Winnipeg at the beginning of last season when everyone was saying Phoenix to Winnipeg, was the first to report Bogosian rumors and strife with coach (which, by the way, he says isn't happening now).
I've followed Dallas Dave for a long time and he's right a lot. The fact he has nothing to gain by spreading these rumors like Eklund does makes him more credible IMO.
The only way I see this rumor having any legs is if Gudbranson has told Florida management that he doesn't intend to sign with them (a continuation of the small bit of drama last year). If so, then it might be a great opportunity to steal some value with Tallon in a tight spot. Poor Panthers, haha.
For those of us that can't hear. What was Bob's take?
He's saying he would be stunned if FLA would do this...ownership issues / money a problem with them. Kept saying it was "interesting", and cited Tambellini saying that it was unlikely to be traded.
The guy on the radio was an Avs beat writer, Adrian Dater.
The asking price for a swap is obviously going to be high, and that's why it's unlikely to happen. That being said, if we did, and walked out with Larsson and Gudbranson I'd be more than willing to use our first next year in a package to get us a #1 center. We could swap a couple roster players for picks then as well.
Basically, Edmonton makes the move ONLY if they think Larsson is the best player in the draft. Then they willingly move from 1 to 3. Florida takes RNH, Colorado takes Landeskog or Huberdeau and Edmonton takes Larsson.
It could well be that the Oilers feel defense is a HUGE weakness and that Larsson could be a generational defenseman talent. Norris Trophy calibre. If that's the case, I'd have no problem with a swap.
Khabibulin and no.1, no. 61
for
No.3, no.33 and rights to Tomas Vokoun
This would actually be a fair trade IMO.
At the same time, the Oilers may really like Couturier or Strome and make a move to get one of them.
Thats how I feel, it would suck not to have RNH but our defence has been solved for the foreseeable future. By all accounts Gudbranson could be better than Larsson and Hamilton.

Imagine a Weber-Suter combo of our own?
And how has that been working for Nashville ? STU loves RNH will Tambo trump him smoke and mirrors I say.
There's an article on Copper and Blue (check BB's dailies thread, thanks BB!) that also alludes to Fla swapping picks to get #1, this time citing Kirk Luedeke from Bruins Draft Watch. Much as I don't like hearing it, there is probably some seed of truth somewhere in there because there are multiple sources.
That being said, Stauffer just closed out by saying he thinks that "I think we'll be seeing Ryan Nugent-Hopkins".

I would think a deal around the 3rd, the 33rd, and a prospect outside of Howden, Markstrom, Bjugstad, and Gudbranson would be an offer. I said this in the trade forums...Florida twice traded down in previous drafts, and Pitt traded up from 3 to 1 to get Fleury, and none of those times did it cost the teams as much as a Gudbranson or Markstrom.
I figured the rumors would start monday and be at epic level by thurs. But that was for the whole league now I am thinking it might just be For the Oilers.

Pre lock out deals. This would be the 1st time since the lockout that a top 4 pick was traded at or near the draft

Ya, and I have nothing against the Panthers (actually like a lot of their prospects), but history shows it usually doesn't reward the team that trades down just to add a 2nd round pick.
If Florida had kept those picks, they may be a completely different franchise. I know there were rumblings they would have taken Jaybo anyways, but the other draft could have been different.
I guess it just comes down to me not being a fan of trading down. Our head scout has been doing great and I want to give him the chance to pick the guy he thinks is the best. If he thinks RNH is the best, but only slightly, I still don't want to leave the draft without him as an Oiler.
