Biggest free agency disappointments

I remember the year the leafs got Lindros, Allison, and O'neill I was thinking just give us the cup no need to play the season, and I think I have never been as disappointing in my life

What other notable free agents went sour after signing?

Usually stars of any sports don't do good on their new teams, which is why I'm scared if Toronto offers Richards some ridiculous deal he can't refuse.

Matt Lombardi has only played 4 periods for Nashville, which totally sucks, but you can't predict stuff like that happening.

Jason Blake. I was so excited when we signed him I was like "yeah, 40 goal scorer" then he went and got only 15 goals. Such a dissapointment.

He did better the year after though.

Kariya and Selanne in Colorado. Certain circumstances played into it, but their tenure there was not memorable.

Pretty much the entire Boston Bruins team coming out of the lockout.

Alexei Zhamnov
Brian Leetch
Brad Isbister
Dave Scatchard
Shawn McEachern

Seriously thought the Bruins were going to be the team to beat when they started. But at the end of the year I was thinking they were going to be the team to beat for the lottery pick...

Yeah I edited to say so. He did better but first year he was here was a downer. If he had stayed for the entire third season he was here he probably would've barely reached 45 points.

Mark Messier to the Canucks, yeah the messiah! However he did help Naslund mature to be captain, but that's about it.

Sheldon Souray was actually really good, but wanted a trade. Souray had 23 goals and 53 points as a Oiler

Martin Lapointe, as well. Before the lockout, but didn't he make something like 9M per year?

Pierre Turgeon and Donald Audette, neither of whom really ever fit in in Dallas, though Audette's stay was only about a month or two and Turgeon eventually got better. To think they let Brett Hull walk after two trips to the final just to bring in those two... the beginning of the end for the Stars.

Mark Messier in Vancouver has to be considered one of the worst.

More like it was quite memorable for how odd that season stands out in both players' respective careers. Quite odd.

Lapointe made 5 mil, but that was still a horrible contract. You might be thinking of Holik's 9 mil which IIRC was signed that same summer.

Almost every free agent Atlanta ever signed, but the big ones were:
Byron Dafoe
Jaroslav Modry
Mike Dunham
Bobby Holik This should go down as one of the worst signings in the past 10 years. Not only did he get a horrible contract, his signing prevented the Thrashers from making any type of serious bid to retain Marc Savard. Which led to:
Steve Rucchin He was supposed to be Savard's replacement, but already had concussion issues when we signed him. He managed to play all of 47 games with 21 points!

This thread screams Wade Redden.

From my team, Mathieu Schneider is up there.

Mike Rathje and Derian Hatcher. Clarke made those moving thinking the league wouldn't keep the new refereeing standards up. He failed.
