well that was kind of worthless. anybody else worried we have 10 days till Drew can start getting offer sheets.
At least we would know his cap hit when Dean matches the offer. Dougty isn't going anywhere, his agent is just trying to get the most money and doesn't care if he has to sign an offer sheet or hold out for it.
Dancing Boy tweeted that Meehan wants to wait for Weber's (former client) and Stamkos' (current client) deals are announced.

that makes sense. guess hoping for a 5.5 cap hit was a pipe dream.
IM a DL fan...but I knew this Doughty issue would become problematic. DL had the same issues in San HO.
Doughty wants Keith money and he deserves it. I hope it gets done.
If it gets to July 1, I hope Doughty gets an 8-year 64 million offer from the Leafs or some crap. DL will match I'm sure....but on June 21st, this should be a non-issue. How do you overpay Greene and Handzus...but BS around with your franchise dman?
What are the chances his contract matches his horrible slide since sometime after the Olympics? I'm guessing 0%. I wish it were a discounted contract to motivate him.
no because Doughty also has to sign the offer sheets, which i dont see him doing to be honest
His agent wants to get the most money possible and an offer sheet could be the best way to get it. I'm sure the Kings would match and it would be a win-win for Doughty.

Who said anything about the contract being problematic? From what I've read, DL's met twice with his agent, made an offer and is waiting to hear back. You're making a jump of Grand Canyon size conclusion with very little info being released.
And you'd really be happy if Toronto or the like threw offersheet to Doughty just so we'd have to match it? What if it was a 10 year, 90 million dollar deal...still be happy then?

Greene and Handzus were only slightly overpaid and for much shorter terms. Lombardi needs to be wary of giving too many years. **** happens. I wouldn't object to the kind of deal you are proposing though, although I would rather see it on his third contract and not his second.

I said it would be problematic years ago. Check my posts. In regards to any Grand Canyon... We don't have the greatest track record of anything getting done. Smyth wants out for personal reasons....but...If we had to match a 10-year 90 million deal for Doughty I would have no problem. He is the cornerstone of our team even more then Kopi is. Meehan doesn't want 9 mil per year though....it is just upsetting that another team may set our market.

Slightly? Zus got 4 years and Greene had 5 years from my recollection. Doughty is not the type of player you dick around with "2nd contracts". Kopi didnt a "2nd contract".
Again, I am a DL fan...but it is absolutely no secret that he has problems with higher profile RFA's wanting extensions. It is why he was run out of San Jose.
I am sure my exact post from 2 years ago was......"You don't want Lombardi negotiating Doughty's next contract"
It's just the way he is. I love what he has done with the club...but his favoritism towards players who have "paid their dues" is getting old.

Yet he was fine negotiating Kopitar's contract, and Johnson's, and Quick's, and...
Oh wait, yeah O'Sullivan, oops he was right on that one too.
I'm not saying don't give Doughty his money, but based on his commitment to preparation last season there is a legit argument to making him wait another year or two to get the mega-payday.

The reason he had trouble signing the RFA's in San Jose, was because ownership changed and they slashed the budget, leading Lombardi to have to play hardball with Nabokov and I forget who the other one was. This lead to them holding out and they got off to a slow start, which they never recovered. So it wasn't totally Lombardi's fault.
DL hasn't had any problems with signing any of our RFA's I don't consider Doughty a problem, as I am sure he is just waiting to see what others get before he commits. I think he should only get a 2-3 yr contract, so he can make up for last seasons unremarkable one. Unfortunately in this day and age that won't happen.
Wow, the first Kings Vision thread that had more than 2 posts instead of cluttering up the board and it had absolutely no insight in it whatsoever. Doughty is a lightning rod.
