2009 Re-draft has Erixon up 13 spots, Kreider 2

1 3 +2 COL Matt Duchene 2-way centres who can excel in any situation are valuable.
2 2 0 TB Victor Hedman Emerging as that dominant top 2 defenseman.
3 1 -2 NYI John Tavares Gifted scorer. Feel best success can come as a winger.
4 6 +2 PHX Oliver Ekman-Larsson Controls the game with his skills and head.
5 11 +6 NAS Ryan Ellis He always has the puck. Size is of no concern to me.
6 5 -1 LA Brayden Schenn May not be a prolific scorer, will be a catalyst for winning.
7 4 -3 ATL Evander Kane A very good two-way player with a strong future.
8 14 +6 FLA Dmitry Kulikov A very good skating, and puck handling defenseman.
9 24 +15 WAS Marcus Johansson Strong awareness of two-way play, will only improve.
10 23 +13 CGY Tim Erixon No situation in game that he can't play. Top two potential.
11 10 -1 EDM Magnus Paajarvi Second line type who will contribute in a lot of ways.
12 7 -5 TOR Nazem Kadri Wants to be the 'go to' guy. Maturing.
13 20 +7 NJD Jacob Josefson Plays the whole game. What a fit for the Devils.
14 16 +2 MIN Nick Leddy Took a significant step ahead with Blackhawks.
15 17 +2 STL David Rundblad Swedish defenceman of the year.
16 8 -8 DAL Scott Glennie Still a Scott Mellanby type.
17 19 +2 NYR Chris Kreider Has advanced his game well.
18 18 0 MTL Louis Leblanc Overcoming a shoulder injury but a solid prospect.
19 9 -10 OTT Jared Cowen Nothing flashy but a good, solid 2nd pair defenseman.
20 25 +5 BOS Jordan Caron Nice compliment to Lucic.
21 28 +7 CHI Dylan Olsen Not a lot of flash but loads of substance.
22 30 +8 PIT Simon Despres Not a top player but a very effective one.
23 13 -10 BUF Zack Kassian Others catching up and Zack finding his level?
24 26 +2 ANA Kyle Palmieri A scorer who does it well.
25 21 -4 CLB John Moore Still learning how to use dynamic ability.
26 15 -11 ANA Peter Holland Shows flashes with inconsistency of unfulfilled promise.
27 12 -15 NYI Calvin de Haan A surprise at 12 in 2009.
28 29 +1 TB Carter Ashton 3rd liner who adds physical and boards play.
29 22 -7 VAN Jordan Schroeder Talent but not a lot of progress at AHL level.
30 27 -3 CAR Philippe Paradis In his third organization after being drafted.

Craig Button.

This is immediately invalid. Button is a clown. Hedman over Tavares? That alone is just god awful.

On a related note, the 2010 Mock Draft has McIlrath down [edit: 7] picks:

http://tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=83

Tarasenko up 10 picks to #5, Fowler up 9 picks to #3.

And he had Seguin over Hall.

There is a reason guys like Button and Milbury are no longer NHL execs. It's far too early to evaluate these drafts.

I'd gladly swap Erixon for Paajarvi, Rundblad or Kadri.

I think this analyst heavily provides his rankings based on draft position as their is no way in hell Erixon is better than his defense partner, David Rundblad.

How is there "no way in hell"? I've seen several Swedish posters, people who watch these two on a regular basis, proclaim that Erixon was better than Rundblad, and some said Erixon was better than Larsson.

Erixon is highly regarded because he's NHL ready, and can play in any siutation.

Erixon is far better at actual defense than Rundblad.

This. I'd say Erixon vs. Rundblad is pretty close. Rundblad is much better offensively, and Erixon is much better defensively. Overall, they're pretty close.

EDIT: In the WJC, I thought Erixon looked much better than Rundblad, so if he's putting much weight on that, I can definitely see him being ranked higher than Rundblad, despite Rundblad's great stats in the SEL last year.

The Rangers say he's up to 6' 3" 205 now. By all accounts he is ready to step into a top 4 role with us right now. I'm very excited to see him play. He also looked good in the WCs.

No, it doesn't. MZA led that same league in scoring the year before he came here. He didn't exactly set the NHL on fire.

I asked you in another thread but you didn't answer. How old are you? The reason I ask is that I find that most younger fans (teenagers) are stat freaks and are also too used to instant gratification and lack patience. IMO, due to modern technology and the "on demand" world we now live in.

You need to stop looking up stats and start watching games.

I feel the same way...

I, being a "newer fan", usually try to avoid historical discussions; it's not my line to speak about players I didn't watch on a regular basis. I do teach myself about the history of the game, though, and I respect it; I try to avoid outlandish statements, such as "Gretzky wouldn't make the NHL right now, and Crosby is easily better than him!!111".

Stats only get you so far. You have to watch a player to truly know his mannerisms, talent, and skill.

You are definitely the exception to what I posted. I know you are a young guy but you are very knowledgeable and at least make the effort to learn the history (which is difficult without context).
