Filppula would be great as a second or third line center. He kind of reminds me of a datsyuk lite the way he plays, patient with the puck, nifty, makes good plays, good vision, good 2 way game... Backstrom, mojo, filppula as our top 3 centers would give us a potential 90 - 100 point center, and two 50-60 point centers... That's the type of center depth that can win championships... Not to mention they all play a good two way game... I'd trade fehr and even throw in a first and/or Perreault, I think he'd help that much
Filppula is a great player but Holland would play hardball with GMGM, I don't think I need to tell you who would come out on top of that deal. We might lose too much
Filppula is def. more talented than laich. He usually doesn't play with zetterberg or datsyuk and probably doesn't see as much PP time as Brooks. If pit in the ame situation as laich i think he could be a 20g 40a guy

Detroit switches the lines often, but Filppula would usually have Franzen and/or Bertuzzi. Granted, he's not put on the 3rd line for sucking.
The only area Filppula is better than Laich is in the playoffs.
And Filppula has never scored more than 19 goals or 40 points. But right, he's more talented than Laich.
not to mention $1.5 million cheaper. Anyway the three key attributes I want in a center is playmaking, faceoffs, and two way play. Physicality would be a nice bonus but after being 12th in hits last year and adding a top 5 hitter during the draft it's not like we're exactly lacking in that department.
So whats the deal. Is the team done acquiring forwards and the rest of the new players will be defenseman or are they going to try to add one more forward via trade or free agency?

I figured a Braveheart quote would obviously be a joke...
I get it, some feel Laich is a god amongst men and others feel he is now an overpaid 3rd line talent.
I hope I am wrong and that this deal spurs him to take his game to another level and become a guy who can be the main cog of a decent 2nd line. And I guess we will see how this plays out over time...
I just can't see a guy like Stamkos pulling a Lebron unless Tampa really low balls him. Like "Here Steve heres a 10 year $50 million contract. We good?"
