The fans gave it to him? Have you ever been in a hockey locker room?

Pretty sure his locker room nickname comes out as *s here, just like all the rest of 'em.

Varly is on his frickin' mask. It's not a figment of the fans' imagination. Hockey players are incredibly lacking in creativity when it comes to names. First syllable + -y or -sy.

yeah, mcphee and boudreau refer to him as varly in the interviews they gives. probably because they get it from fans.

hockey nicknames are stupid and unoriginal. always have been.

If the Caps move Semin for a 2C. Would anyone be interested in signing Cole for his spot at 2RW?

Where are we at right now?

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Semin-Laich-Brouwer
Chimera-Johansson-??????
Hendricks-?????-Sjogren

Schultz-Green
Alzner-Carlson
Erskine-Wideman

Fehr, I believe, is starting the season on IR, so we need a spare winger or two and another centerman (I'm not keen on penciling Sjogren in there).

That lineup is kind of meh.

Offensively, his game is too similar to Knuble/Brouwer/Laich to really have a unique and defined role. Would rather go for Ryder or Leino or just let Fehr give it a shot. Or just keep Semin.

Not that I dislike Cole. Just not sure if he would have a place at this point.

i know a little bit about the nickname thing. occasionally fans put a name on a player, but generally speaking its people that work together that are informal that shorten everyone's names. noobs, ov, backs, varly. yea. they can be stupid. they are not meant to be rocket science.

i call my wife babes, not catherine.

are we really arguing about varlamov being called varly? seriously?

If Fehr is pencilled in when he is ready, i would expect a short timer to get a shot there. Eakin, Bouchard, Galiev even.

There's no quote...just something apparently heard on NHL Live.

Didn't most say we needed more of that type, and less Semins? Or did Brouwer fill that?

As far as I'm concerned the more big, fast, net-crashing forwards we get the better. And the bigger, faster, and net-crashinger, the better. So a big yes to Cole from me.

Cole

One too many Holtbys. Also don't forget, you need a couple depth Coles in case some of them get hurt.

Where is my cloning machine...

Edit: Oh, and teach a few of them how to take draws.

You're stupid. Coles don't get hurt. Trying to break their bones is like trying to rip a phonebook in half with your bare hands.

Another possible blueliner heading to free agency, from Blue Jackets beat reporter Aaron Portzline:

Quote:
@Aportzline--Told the #CBJ and D Jan Hejda are not close right now, that all signs point to Hejda reaching free agency on July 1.

Yeah, but what happens when two Coles collide?
