Jayes is a fantastic skater for his size. He's not going to blow by anyone but he's got enough speed to get in on the forecheck and the agility to play in front of the net.
Brandon Saad declined his invitation to the U.S. WJC Evaluation Camp next month. Any insights from Hawks fans?
Not sure... doesn't look like it conflicts with anything Blackhawks related (training camp is in September, he won't be at the convention which doesn't conflict anyways and prospects camp is over).
Maybe he feels he has a strong shot at making the Hawks this year and doesn't want to risk injury? I have no idea..
Since he's declined to attend the Summer Camp, is he automatically excluded from making the WJC team? If so.. then it really doens't make sense why he'd decline.

I don't think it would make him automatically excluded... but if he intends on being there, I'm sure he'd go to the camp.
Maybe he wants to train harder and improve his game? Work towards next season (where is he committed to?)
Brandon Saad can't use the same "loophole" that Morin used to get into the AHL. It's not even a loophole. The CHL/NHL has a transfer agreement that keeps players that are drafted out of the CHL in the CHL until they either
A) Make the NHL full-time
B) Become eligible to join the AHL (20)
Morin was drafted out of the USNTDP, so even though he played in Kitchener, he wasn't drafted out of the CHL and thus wasn't subject to the CHL/NHL transfer agreement. Brandon Saad was drafted out of Saginaw (CHL) so he does have to stay in the CHL until he's eligible to join the AHL or if he makes the Hawks full-time this year.
** If Saad made the Blackhawks this year, that doesn't mean he could be sent to the AHL after his 10-game look. If Saad makes the team, plays 10 games, and gets sent down, he's sent back to Junior and his ELC would begin.
Ah, bummer. Rockford is looking like a decent squad this year if the defense can keep up. We need a #1 goalie for the Rock too. Alec Richards is swiss cheese.

Saad will likely be playing in Rockford next year. I'm not 100% sure on that, but Saad is a late '92 birth year, so I believe this will be his last year in the OHL.
As an comparable, Nazem Kadri is a late '90 birth year and was taken in the 2009 NHL entry draft by the Leafs in the 1st round. He played one more year in London before turing Pro to begin last year. I'm sure it's the same for Saad so he'll be in Rockford next year.
Just spewing BS but... maybe he took being drafted in the 2nd round as a kick in the ass and wants to work on his game instead of going to summer evaluation and playing at the WJ? I mean... wouldn't really make too much sense because if he wants to prove himself, WJC is the place to do it but I don't see why else?
Edit: Saw this from some poster on the prospects board.
"Brandon Saad had a hamstring or groin (adductors) bugging him much of last year. This is thought to of hampered his play enough for him to take a bit of a tumble in the draft. I do not know his injury status as of right now but sometimes these things can take months to get over. He (or his medical advisors)may of decided that is it just wasnt ready."

Was wondering if anyone knew what was up with Nathan Davis. He's not listed on Capgeek's Hawks roster, nor on the Hawks roster on their site, but I see according to some writers that he was qualified in June?
