Dave Cameron is better suited as an assistant coach rather than a head coach, but I still can't help but to think that Melnyk had a very very very large part in Cameron being hired, something I would rather not be true (as owners interfering with hockey operations never turns out good).

Quite frankly, I could give less of a damn about the alleged meddling.

I want to see the on-ice product improve. And I don't care if they hired Eugene's son or Coco the Monkey. Whoever gets the job done gets my support.

YAH, YUP, just great to have a first time NHL coach saddled with a main rival for the job, who was appointed for you, has a direct pipeline to the owner, and is either ignorant enough, or feels smugly secure enough, to announce his own hiring before it is official. Just shows TONS of respect for the new coach. Yah, just great stuff for team chemistry and managment unity.

The coach picks one assistant and the management picks the other most of the time.

Which is exactly what happened here.

They're both more than qualified to be assistants so I dunno why everyone is freaking out about Cameron.

Isn't Reeds the guy who made that bonehead decision to bench Binnington in the Mem Cup?

Good stuff. I don't know much about Reeds except how good his team performed this season. Can anyone speculate as to what his individual duties might be on this staff based on his strengths as a coach?

Good news for you then, MacLean and Cameron are friends who apparently converse a lot, so I guess it's as much about Cameron's talent as coach than it is about a conspiracy theory.

What has Mark Reeds ever won? I am tired of this team hiring losers. What is this about coaching in the UHL? Isn't that a league full of 12 year olds?!?!? You know what makes it so much worse? Maclean totally only picked him to be an assistant because they had worked together in the past. He didn't pick the best guy, he picked his buddy. **** this entire organization, I'm cheering for Winnipeg. They know what they are doing hiring the coach of the Manitoba Moose to coach their NHL team.

won: OHL title, coach of the year

I've mentioned it 2 weeks ago, MacLean and Reed know each others since they played together for Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1980-81.

*Not sure if you are being sarcastic

Qualified or not (and he is) the elephant in the room is Cameron. Melnyk has a spy on the bench. This has the potential to be interesting.

Oh, I didn't ask who would be coaching the PP, just which coach the HFBoards/media should blame.

I agree. We just designate Cameron right now. He has scapegoat written all over him...

A friend of mine, Gemel Smith, played on Owen last year and said he was a spectacular coach and really improved him as a player.

What the hell? We've never seen any of them coach an NHL game yet.
