Offers for Kessel

According to Dreger, there has been some word going around that a considerable offer has been made for Phil Kessel.

Without derailing this thread and flaming/trolling...

which teams might be interested and what might the offers look like? could columbus be in play or Ottawa?

Columbus would probably be a better trade partner than Ottawa.

I feel like the Kings would like Kessel. They didn't get who they wanted in Kovy so I'm sure they are on the lookout for an elite sniper to play along side kopitar.
They also have a lot of assets that Burke would be interested in... namely Brayden Schenn.

That would be very interesting...and tempting.

I woudl be curious as to see which team has interest in the guy. But personally? Not sure I would want to trade Kessel...we're trying to win now, we're trying to find a center to play with Kessel, trading him away now would be a horrible idea for Burke.

This.

As soon as I saw that it was an offer for Kessel, the first thing I thought about was the Kings. They'd finally get their scoring winger after missing out in the Kovy sweepstakes.

Brayden Schenn going back would be really interesting............

I would give up our 21st overall and Wierciosh (as a Sens fan).

Probably not enough, I know, but with us rebuilding I'm not going to move major prices for a half ass'd quick fix.

Leafs gave up way to much to get him, and I wouldn't come close to paying that to have him on the Sens.

Where/when did he mention this?

Offers make sense. He's a good player, so obviously teams will be offering stuff for him. Hell, shero probably gets offers for crosby all the time, doesn't mean he's actually going anywhere.

Can't see burke doing it though given how much it took to get him, for pretty much any price.

I'd put my money on Kessel and stuff for Schenn and stuff.

Maybe something like Kessel for Schenn and Penner? I don't know. Then LA signs Richards and doesn't have to deal Smyth?

I could imagine LAK being interested as they have the defensive team and system to cover up for Kessels lack of skill outside of scoring and boy to they need scoring. But I really doubt Lombardi puts anything significant on the table, and they have already dealt away their first pick and a good prospect to edm for Penner. Burke and Lombardi will not work out a deal together they will both want to much.

Don't look at Ottawa, we don't have the pieces that we can trade to get Kessel.

I listened to him on the team1260 and I think you miss heard what he said

what I heard was "There were some interest, but no real serious inquiries. It was more or less sniffing around."

not verbatim--but that was the gist of his comments

I was shocked to read this. I can't see Burke dealing Kessel so early in his Leaf career and after mortgaging a huge chunk of the future for him. But Dreger is pretty legit and has deep Leaf connections.... I wouldn't be opposed to trading Kessel for a huge haul like we gave up to get him. If Burke were to trade Kessel, I'd see it as a tank-type move, there's no way a B Schenn could replace Kessel NEXT season.

EDIT: sniffing is always going to happen, that's much different than a "considerable offer"

Ok this thread is a bit mis-leading, Dreger says Kessel has been talked about, but in no way did he say " a considerable offer was made" he actually said ' no formal offer has been made and that he doesn't expect him to be traded. His name just came up in talks...which happens to almost every player in their careers.

This is idiocy at it's finest. Dreger said Phil Kessel got a "hit" from another team, yet there was NO formal offer. Teams do this all the time this shouldn't even be a thread lmao

Basically this. We may fill in a hole we need, but then another opens by trading Kessel. Unless we got a #1C and a good RW prospect. I don't think Burke moves him.

I really can't see Burke moving him, he was starting to really develop into a good all-around player this season. Not to mention he's our best offensive player on an offensively starved team.

Oh Dreger. I get that he is very connected but this feels like saying it just to get a rise out of people and to get them talking.
