I also counted 11 times that the Sabres have three games in four nights. Though someone else should double check that as well with how well the math has been done so far in this thread.

And another one of those awesome 7 game roadies.
Already done, if I counted right.

Teams have some say on which dates they'd prefer and so on, right?

I have a suspicion that the Sabres bring on the themselves the situation with back-to-back games, because of their apparent preference for having home games on Friday nights, while many of their opponents (including in the division) prefer to have home games on Saturday nights.

It can't be a coincidence that the Sabres always have so many back-to-backs. And it's not like HSBC Arena is so booked-up with other events that it's unavoidable.

That was long the operating belief under Quinn/Golisano. Though Pegula/Black did say they would be trying to get us less in the future. Guess that isn't this year.

I wonder if John Vogl will recognize that this is a real story and ask some tough questions of Ted Black. Probably not. Can they take Mike Harrington off the baseball beat for a day?

Seriously, I want to know why they couldn't fulfill the promise of fewer back to backs.

My guess is that it's time related. The schedule makers most likely begin work on the schedule early in the year and have somewhat of a template in place. I would imagine that this is the last year that the Golisano/Quinn request of Friday night games will impact the Sabres schedule.

I would guess that if Pegula/Black requested fewer back to back games that it'll be implemented for next year's schedule.

January 24th/March 25th. Look for me getting attacked in the stands of the MTS Center as the only guy in the building wearing a Sabre jersey.

Dear Robyn Regehr:

This schedule is only a figment of your imagination. 21 back-to-backs is no reason to refuse to waive your NTC.

Thank you.

Maybe.

But I thought Ted said recently that, in response to fans' requests for a New Year's Eve date, he would see what he could do. Not sure what it means that there's a home date on December 31.

I hate to be neurotic. I just want some reassurance that this ownership group really cares more about winning than selling hockey tickets.

Nice to see - Black promised as much and obviously lived up to his word.

A whopping TWO are both home games. That's brutal.

Not the prettiest schedule.

I probably won't get to go to many games this year anyway. Hopefully my daughter will fall asleep to me screaming at the television.

I don't think he promised as much, but even if he did, how did he come through on that promise yet still end up with the most back to backs in the league?

Hopefully next year there will be enough time for Pegula and Black to possibly let the schedule makers know that Friday home games are not as important.

I would have to bet we still will see a large amount of back-to-backs though, considering the Sabres have the shortest travel time in all of the league.

New Breakdown of this year's schedule on Sabres.com

http://sabres.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|BUF|home

I pulled out the points that I thought were most interesting.

Quote:
*After playing a league-high 22 sets of back-to-back games last season, the Sabres once again lead the NHL with 21 back-to-backs this year. This is four more than second-place Chicago, and 11 more than the league-low 10 to be played by Calgary, Colorado and Tampa Bay.

*Within their 21 back-to-backs, the Sabres will play a team coming off a rest day 14 times.

*Conversely, the Sabres will come off a rest day against a team playing its second game in a row on 10 different occasions.

*Buffalo will play three games in four days a total of 16 times this season – tied for 12th most in the league. The San Jose Sharks will play a league-high 20.

*Not including the team’s two season opening games in Europe, 32 of Buffalo’s 40 road games will be played in the Eastern Time zone. They play five games in Central Time and three in the Pacific Time zone. From Oct. 14-Dec. 31, Buffalo’s only trip outside the Eastern Time zone will be to Nashville on Dec. 2.
