Ennis for Regehr would be somewhat significant overpayment on the sabres part. And speaking as a sabres fan, could you please tell the flames gm to trade regehr for butler straight up? We'd be upgrading from a guy who should (at least right now) be a bottom pair player to regehr, who could at the very least be a serviceable 2nd pair dman, he'd probably be on the 1st pair with myers. And although it's an absolute dream, I'd love it if calgary traded regehr for connolly. sorry for being selfish and wishing death upon your offense with that idea though

Not trolling, but a serious question from an Oiler fan.

I thought the deal for Regehr was for Drew Stafford straight up.

Did anyone else hear this or am I dead wrong?

I've heard: Boyes, Connolly, Roy, Weber, a 1st, Kassian, Foligno, Ennis, Adam, Hecht, so why the hell not throw Stafford into the mix.

We have heard this rumor as well, but its true that Stafford just signed a new multi year contract. Would Buffalo go out and trade him soon? Salaries are almost a wash, I don't think thats the deal but I could be wrong.

And how is asking an honest question trolling?

To be fair regarding Stafford, Jeff Carter signed an extension earlier this season with Philly, as well... Although, I do not think Stafford is in this mix.

Can't remember the site I was reading when they mentioned Stafford's name. I know I was a bit shocked to see it considering the extension he just signed.

And with me being an Oiler fan I just wanted to make it known I'm not trolling, I used to live in Calgary for 20+ years.

Thanks for the answers and good luck this year.

Over on Flames Nation (which I think is run by the Fan960) someone mentions that the Fan960 itself seems pretty convinced Adams is coming back. Time will tell I guess.

As an old ****-faced longtime Flames fan, I cannot tell you how mad I would be if it was a soft return. Regehr has been a warrior on our blueline for countless years, every year making the corners hell to pay, and I ******** well expect that such commitment is valued and rewarded. This guy has given both knees to our team, and has personally guaranteed that the Flames zone is a dissapointing place to play, and it would be insulting to such a player to be given away for something as simple as cap space.

A laudable concept, but I would expect a trade would be based on what knees he can give to another team.

This is the NHL in 2011. A serviceable player on an ELC >>> a wily veteran pulling $4M. That's just how it is.

Yes, Regehr is going to be traded for someone like a UFA. You heard it here first.

Oh yeah, you can take that to the bank.

Did Regehr not get asked last year right around this time to waive his NMC and he declined? At least that's the rumour I remember. It was supposed to him for Savard. Luckily he said no, from a flames standpoint, since Savard never played a game this season. So to all the people that say, he was asked to wave his NMC, so that means he's finished as a flames, had better just relax and take it easy. He could very well say no to the deal, and then play out the season for Calgary.

That's not quite how I remember last season

But I do hope Regehr turns down a trade if its mostly for cap space

It all depends on where Feaster thinks the current roster is at.

Are we going to be able to challenge for the Cup? or do we look to the future?

If it's a rebuild that the club thinks is needed, then shifting guys like Robyn for picks & younger stock might not be such a bad idea.

If the Sabres 1st is involved, we should know what's up within the next 12 hrs at lease.

If this isn't resolved today, then we know a pick isn't involved. Unless they'll just move the Sabres' 2012 1st instead.

But, I doubt that.

Where does this stem from, I've seen this mentioned multiple times by various people on these boards? That would be an excellant return for Regehr, but the reality is I don't see Regehr's market vlue being that high.

To clarify, I am a huge Regehr fan and I think his value to the Flames is high, but I didn't think any shut-down defenseman would merit that type of return, unless they were more adept on the offensive side as well (i.e. more well rounded).

I am curious to see why Adam & a 1st is being mentioned so frequently though.

If a deal with Buffalo goes down, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it will be this.

To Buffalo:
Regehr
Stajan

To Calgary:
Butler
Adam
2nd round pick

Buffalo does not have a 2nd round pick, we used that on picking up Brad Boyes. The rough framework is what buffalo fans seem to think as well

Regehr + Stajan/Kotaik
Butler/Webber + Adam/Foligno + 3/4rd pick

I forgot about that. I agree though, if we are sending a "poor" contract to you then I don't think we will be getting your 1st. I like both Adam and Foligno has shaped up to be a really nice prospect and developed nice this past year. And then I think a 3rd round pick would be coming back our way. Thats a fair deal for everyone I think, as you guys would be able to use Stajan on your third line.

Unless somehow Calgary manages to convince Buffalo into giving up Adam.

Adam is very good, and better than Foligno right now. But his skating is an issue still, Foligno could very well turn out to be a more dominant player down the road. They are both solid prospects IMO.

That's not a bad framework for a deal for both teams. Buffalo could use a shutdown, veteran defenceman and a centre, which makes Stajan a better fit.

The Flames free up cap space and get some young players in return. All-in-all, a pretty fair deal should it go through.
