2 potential tr00 fan whiping boy? Are we officially moving on to Carter or are we going to give that situation time to play out?

Methot will be back. I say go with what got you to the dance...

I was hoping to have Lepisto back but I'm glad Stralman is gone. IMO, not re-signing Lepisto means the front office is banking on one of Savard, Moore, or Holden to be ready for bottom pairing/spot duty come October.

i too wouldn't have minded having Sami back...the old saying "if you want to win, you need a Fin" if for no other reason!

other than that...I really thought we might have had a good project in Kana...sad that he went overseas...

Like everyone said wouldn't have minded if Sami came back....not shocked to see everyone elses rights not retained. So glad Stralman is gone

I think Kana already headed back to Europe.

So this leaves us with Russell, Methot, and Tyutin as defensemen with significant NHL experience and Hejda as a question mark, meaning that at least three spots need to be filled through trade/free agency/the farm?

If we were to somehow pull a rabbit out of the proverbial hat and land Christian Ehrhoff, our defense doesn't look all that bad.

Ehrhoff
Russell
Clitsome
Tyutin
Methot
Hejda

Holden/Savard/Moore

Please, oh please, let us land a top defenseman via free agency. Heck, a trade will do as well, as long as we don't way overpay.

Stralldog is not going to be very happy.

I, on the other hand, am a bit surprised by the non-qualifying of Lepisto as well. I guess the org likes Holden better.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Nothing wrong with Sami, he's just player redundant player.

Howson has a ton of work to do on the blueline this offseason. None of the farm kids should be penciled in, earn it, sure, but certainly not penciled in

Count me as one who is happy that Lepisto is gone. He's just a better-skating Stralman. Lost in his own zone, and didn't really do anything else. Rather have Holden or a young guy, but hopefully by not re-signing him it means we want to sign another proven NHL defenseman to take his spot.

Kinda hoping we would give Stralman a QO. Can never have too many right handed players. Could be a good 7th Dman.

Lepisto was "Meh" in my opinion. Only thing I recall against him was a few ill-timed penalties while he was here. But, my biggest desire is to get some help, SERIOUS help, on D. So, this doesn't break my heart. Make room for someone who can be an impact on D.

As much as I've been a long-time fan of Stralman. If you qualified him, he'd be making the same $1.95m he made last season, which he hasn't shown to be worth at this point.

We got something. We got out of that horrible contract extension he signed. That was the whole point of the trade in the first place.

100% correct. That trade made getting Carter and maybe a 1/2 D man possible.

Why? He's keeping the rest of the other crew. Looks like we are going to have 5 of these guys returning. Best case is we get 2 new ones and one of these guys we are bringing back ends up as the 7th.

Either way, we don't need, want, or desire Lepisto at this point.

He's already committing to a poor group as it is. No sense in further compounding that mistake (IMO).

Lepisto was better than Hejda he is speeder his moving is better. He would be cheaper than Jan. And Howson wants to keep Hejda but not resign better Lepisto. This is this reason.

Hey I'm not saying I agree with Howson. What I'm saying is why are you surprised when you know what Howson has committed to keeping?

As far as "better" goes. That word is over used and frankly misleading. At no point did Lepisto impress anyone with his play or earn a new contract. At no point did he stand out and say "Look I'm better then what you have on the depth chart ahead of me". Let's keep "better" under wraps shall we?
