Wow guys, one team's loss is another team's gain. And I think you've gained a few new fans today.

You have a scary good team. And as a bonus, Richards has fought Perry a few times. It'd be great to see that again.

The title made me chuckle. I won't bring it up to Flyers' fans, they are dealing with enough right now.

Anyway, best trade L.A.'s made since they got ol' whatshisname from the Edmonton whoevers back in the 1980s. Prepare for deep playoff runs!!

At the time, Jason Alison's acquisition was bigger than Palffy's. Then four months passed and we all came to our senses. LoL.

I'm guessing Brad Richards will now end up with the flyers.

You guys are going to love Richards. Gritty, heart and soul player who'll play great defense for you and give you 70+ points if you give him non-****** linemates. Have fun...

what will Mike Richards point production drop being in murrays system. My guess is he'll be a 50-60ish point player.

Richards best seasons were under Murray/Stevens apparently

For a 65pt player we give up the number one prospect in all of hockey and a guy who could be a rock on our 3rd line forever. O yea and a 2nd round pick!!!

Stupid/terrible trade. Stupid beyond belief.

What's worse is we're stuck with him for a decade. Amazingly stupid.

And what really is annoying is that you know the Flyers knew they had made two stupid signings with both Richards and Carter. So we're the morons that bailed them out.
Tad,

We usually don't agree, but in this case I agree with a lot of what you say. I don't agree it was a terrible trade, but you bring up many great points and the people here calling this a steal are fools.

Richards has only been a 65 point player the past couple of seasons and isn't exactly known as a finisher, which this team still drastically needs. I would have expected a bit more of a return for Schenn and I'm not sure I like trading Simmonds coming off a down season, his value was a lot higher last summer and hopefully would have returned after a rebound season.

On the flip side, I do like this move for a few reasons, for one, unlike the awful Smyth move, Richards is still in the prime of his career and there is upside to this trade. He could very well return to a point per game level with the Kings. Plus, unlike Smyth who was a one dimensional player, Richards can do it all, play both sides of the rink, play in all situations etc. I am not really concerned about the money aspect of this. Even at the end of the deal when he is older and might be overpaid, atleast the Kings will have gotten many great years out of him, as opposed to Smyth where the Kings were stuck with the final three seasons of that awful cap hit and never enjoyed Smyth in his prime.

But honestly, the best reason about this trade is that it marks the end of a ridiculous three season experiment of having Jarret Stoll on a scoring line, and the end of that makes me tolerate this trade,

07-08 Coach Stevens Asst Murray, 75 points.
08-09 Coach Stevens, 80 points.

What people need to realize is that Murray's system was so defense oriented because of the lack of skill. By adding Richards, the skill level goes up substantially. Thus, TM will open it up a little. I think he's around 60-70 like the last couple years.

I'm pretty sure TM and John Stevens who coached him to his best seasons in Philly have vouched for him... Here's Dean's quote:

Quote:
We felt at this stage of the franchise it was time to make a significant move for an impact player. Mike Richards is not only one of the top players in the league, he’s also universally recognized as one of the finer leaders in the game and one of its elite competitors. Additionally, given that he’s only 26 years old and he’s on a long-term contract, he fits our plan now and for the long-term future.

Richards played with Carcillo and Nodl last year aswell people need to remember. Brown + whoever is a considerable upgrade. I expect Brown and Richards to both score ~70 provided they both get some pp time of some sort

I think we should be looking at the production of the players who will play on Richards line as opposed to just Richards production. I'm more enthused to see what his potential linemates will do with having a quality center to play with for TEN YEARS.

TEN YEARS OF MIKE RICHARDS. We have a quality player who will play with us for nearly the duration of his career.

Great trade. Schenn is a great player, but we can't forget that we also have Loktionov. Schenn could become a player like Mike Richards or even score more points, but that's a big thing to ask from him.

Kopitar-Richards is a scary 1-2 punch that could go against anyone in the league.

I won't post proposed lines or anything because I don't even think Dean is done.
