They aren't getting Richards, they still gotta sign Voracek, Simmonds, Leino, Zherdev and Bryz with about 13 million in cap space.

This has nothing to do with Bryzgalov. The Flyers chose to go with an over the hill cancer like Pronger to lead them to the Cup... good luck with that.

They have to sign; Voracek - RFA, Simmonds - RFA, and Leino UFA. Not sure they have enough space if they keep those 3. NYR have a lot of money to throw at him. That's where I see him going.

Philly Lineup
Leino - Giroux - JVR
Hartnell - Briere - Voracek
Simmonds - Schenn - Versteeg
Laperriere - Betts - Shelly

Pronger - Timonen
Coburn - Meszaros
Carle - ?

Bryz
Leighton
Bob

Not as formidable as it was 4 hours ago.

Philly seems like less of a threat even though they finally got an NHL goaltender...weird. I'm not sure what they're doing.

By the time the guys/picks they acquired get to their prime, Pronger will be gone.

I'm not an NHL GM but I don't understand what they're doing here.

I wouldn't want to be a philly fan right now.

I heard after they were swept by us the owner of the flyers told holmgren to make some changes.

If the Rangers get Brad Richards. I think they are just as good as Philly. And, will battle them for 2nd behind Pittsburgh in their division.

very formidable... more so imo. depth wins championships. this team still has high end talent. briere led he playoffs in scoring last year. giroux has arrived. jrv possibly arrived in the playoffs. pronger if healthy is one of the ultimate leaders and has led many teams deep into playoffs.

richards/carter werent buying in... they were being distractions off the ice... the team wasnt gelling.

they got as far as they did despite these guys, not because of them. purly talent wise the team takes a very short term step back. but there is still plenty of front end talent to win with. and now a better leadership group

You're counting on some young guys who have done nothing in the playoffs; Voracek, Schenn, Simmonds to replace Carter/Richards?? Not even close. Richards was awesome in last years playoff run for them. None of the 3 they acquired will come close to matching what he can do. Pronger a year older off of back surgery. Good luck with that. Briere and Timonen are older, quick little guys who better not lose 1/2 step or they lose a lot of their effectiveness.

Long term not bad for Philly. For the next year or two. A step back. Not to mention Bryzgalov must play a lot better in the playoffs than he has the last two.

I don't like their moves for the short term, long term it could be scary good, though.

Brysgalov signing is a joke for them, IMO

My thoughts...3 or 4 years from now, Philly will be a force. They'll just need to draft D the tomorrow and the next couple drafts now that their forwards are set for many years to come.

Does this make it finally all right to love Mike Richards? LA is going to be nasssty next year, they could easily take the cup with that defense, goaltending, and finally some offensive support for Kopitar, Brown, and Williams...and I feel like they may not be done either, especially if they clear Smyth's contract off the books.

Have to let this one settle for a bit but I think Holmgren may have done a great job of retooling here. They got rid of the party hounds of Phlly and got tons of youth back...It may hurt him this year but after that they are in good shape. If Schenn is anywhere near as good as they say I think he wins that deal and I think Simmonds is overrated junk. If they get Murphy or more likely Couturier they are in good shape. OTOH I seriously question Lombardi's work. Mike Richards is many things, one of them is not a star offensive threat, which is what the Kings need. On top of that you have a wrist injury that makes me go hmm and a party hound in LA. Good luck with that.

This is shocking!

Just to throw this out there...Does anyone think this is a bigger/lesser of a deal than the Bruins trading J-Tho to San Jose 6 years ago?

Bigger, they actually got a valuable player in return. Rift between Richards and Pronger? Can't understand why. Pronger must be a really easy guy to get along with.

Blah hah...we made the flyers blow up! That and spend a lot of cap on a goalie.

I blame the Rocky statue.

Heres Bryzgalov's feelings on Pronger when he left Edmonton.

I'd put the video up but for some reason it never works for me for some friggin reason.

LA was long on glamour and short on snarl, IMO. Good trade for them. Philly lost leadership but room unity might compensate. But where will the will to win come from? Not Pronger, and not Briere. Forward lines have too many meatheads and girly-men. D was a bigger problem than goalies - Pete can switch goalies but he was stuck with his defense.

Simmonds is a tougher player than Richards, so I don't see how this gives them more 'snarl', but their fans have been pushing for a legit number 2 center for a while (funny b/c Stoll was really good last year...poor guy doesn't get enough credit). Personally I thought what they really needed was a legit scoring winger to play with Kopitar, but whatever.
