Just 1 more year at $4.2 million. Teams aren't going to give value for a rental when they're on the hook for the whole salary. i.e. Semin.

that is a very hard team to play for.
I think its fair to point out that since winning two Cups, the Flyers have been to the Finals or Conference Finals 12 times.....thats more times than Ferris Bueller was absent

I'll take that kind of success from my team

Same here, more or less.

DownGoesBrown had a good point on twitter; with this being the B's 2012 pick, they basically turned Kaberle into Liles, a 1st, and Colborne. That's surprisingly competent GMing from Burke.

At least JML can be re-signed immediately if Burke decides... unlike Semin.

He's a 50-50 GM IMHO. But he goes for what he wants.

Statsny on his way to Vancouver. #canucks #avs @VanCanucks

That sounds likely as Schneider and something else. Much less than Backstrom.

Even pretending that this was real, they weren't getting the #2 overall pick along with Stastny. That's the difference.

lets not forget that most of that time the flyer swung a pretty big financial stick as well. they were always in the top 5 in the league in payroll in the pre salary cap league, where that was a significant advantage.

Exactly. Win or lose, the Flyers are obsessed with trying very, very, very, very hard to win it every year. McPhee has shown zero gumption over the years. No vehemence. :/

There are two big differences between the Flyers and the Caps. The owners and the fans.

The Flyers owner demands excellence. Ted demands reaching good marketing goals. Philly fans will love you if you win and crucify you if you lose. Caps fans are, on the whole, pretty wishy-washy about winning.

Panthers using red jerseys at home next year. At least three members of the Southeast have them now. Commie infiltration, clearly.

The Caps carried a large payroll for several seasons, FWIW. Fact is.....big payroll doesnt = success. See NYR for example. What it does indicate is ownership is willing to spend, where the Caps have been the opposite for much of thier history.

Even with that....the point is they have a history of playing to win....other than the 88 rebuild its hard to find a season (much less era) where the it wasnt Cup or bust

They are being laughed at for making big bold moves....maybe im the only one here who fully expects them to be a contender next season, and for many seasons onward.

not counting 2 Cups the Flyers still dwarf the Caps in the success dept....and yes, its not even close

I will like it, since most sites I go to, WAS was the only team not in sight on the drop down.

I am happy for Winnipeg to get a team back. Imagine if we lost the Caps. Life would suck.

Again, regardless of what your mythical "true Flyers fans" think they know, the lockerroom atmosphere didn't hurt them last season. They won the conference and were within two games of the Cup. That's a fact, and not something dreamed up by 15 year olds on these boards.

And you're delusional if you think the Caps could have gotten as much for Green and Semin.

Your shtick has been the same since the season ended: everything GMGM does is ****. Everything other GMs do is gold and should be emulated.

Change for the sake of change is moronic. Would you have seriously been happy if Ovechkin and Backstrom were traded for a similar package just for the sake of a 'culture change'?
Read between the lines. It's not hard for me to see. Skoff all you want at Holmgren, but you have to assume the lockerroom issue was tearing the team apart for Holmgren to swing these deals. Trading away two players on career contracts doesn't get done easily and doesn't get done without ownership agreeing to it.

Face it...those two were a problem.

Tunnel vision. Looking at on ice performance for one singular season is just that. There's a lot more to building a team than just evaluating on ice results from a year ago. How did they look this year's playoffs? That's what you should be focusing on.

Reports of Brian Campbell heading to CBJ.

Or not. Aportzline: Told the #CBJ have NOT traded for Brian Campbell.

He has a limited NTC.
