I told you that 7/per was a joke, and that it would be between 5 and 6 mil. Deal is a touch too long...just a touch

Philly still has room for their forwards though.

So, what are the chances the NHL looks at this if it's a frontloaded deal? Decent cap hit, but the contract takes him into his 40s.

Makes Thomas' contract look ****ing amazing in retrospect, huh?

Certainly a better cap hit compared to what was reported before but 9 years is a long time. Going to be near impossible to unload that contract if he doesn't work out or is merely average/mediocre for Philly.

As long as the structure isn't gross, it will be fine.

Here's their cap picture with my RFA estimates, posted from SoSH - and I felt I was pretty bearish on what Voracek/Simmonds/Carcillo etc. would get:

Hartnell - Briere - Versteeg ($13,783,333.33 total)
Van Riemsdyk - Giroux - Voracek ($5,404,166.67 + $2.1m estimated for Voracek = $7,504,166.67 total)
Carcillo - Schenn - Simmonds ($3,110,000 + $1.2m estimated for Carcillo, $2.5m estimated for Simmonds = $4,810,000 total)
Shelley - Betts - Powe ($1,800,000 + $800,000 estimated for Powe = $2,600,000 total)
Nodl ($600,000 estimated)

Total for forwards: $29,297,500

Pronger - Meszaros ($8,921,428.57 total)
Timonen - Carle ($9,770,833.33 total)
Coburn - Walker ($4,900,000 total)
Bartulis ($600,000)

Total for defensemen: $24,192,261.90

Bryzgalov
Bobrovsky

Total for goaltenders: $7,416,666.67

Total: $60,906,428.57

Cap space: $3,393,571.43

WOW. Unload top two guys to get a goalie. I think philly has just committed suicide. I "ALMOST" feel for them LOL.

This is crazy. Thanks Philly for screwing yourselves.

No way they can ever move this guy via trade. Ownership will have to sanction sending him to play in Europe ALA Huet in a couple years.

I guess it beats letting him walk or allowing him to get a 6mil+ cap hit.

The Philadelphia "blow it up" moves make me appreciate the Bruins management team even more.

I would not like to have an impulsive, knee jerk management team like Philadelphia.

High price for someone with little to no playoff success. I understand it wasn't all his fault but he was unimpressive against Detroit this year. Untimely and bad first goals putting his team down early.

Like another poster said: Not sure if he even ranks top 10 in the league. If he does he is towards the 9th/10th position.

All depends on the defense's health in my opinion. Bryz is better than his stats - he had Phoenix right there the year before.

Way better in net than last season.

But - 1 injury and their D is 3rd tier.

$9.7m for Timmonen and Carle? Way worse than Bryz.

Dump someone and get Bieksa - then we are talking.

Meanwhile their forwards constitute a bag fulla douches.

Despite the talking heads, the Flyer's problems went way beyond the goalie merry go round.

They have 9 forwards signed right now, 6 D, including fringe NHL Oskars Bartulis, and 3 goalies and have a whopping 7.6 million in cap space.

They will probably trade either Bobrovsky or Leighton, freeing up another 1.5-1.7, so call it 9 million in space with at least 4-5 spots to fill. About 1.5-2.0 per spot. maybe they move Versteeg and free up another 3/per, but they still have to replace him...

I don't get it.

Thomas
Rask
Price
Hiller
Miller
Ward
Vokoun
Quick
Backstrom
Rinne
Lundqvist
Fleury
Halak

all 100% no questions asked better than Bryz.

Maybe better than him:

Pavelec
Kipprusoff
Brodeur
Crawford
Roloson
Luongo
Schneider

He's better than Bobrovsky and Boucher, but still lulzy.

This has the potential to bite them in the ass in the future, give it two years. He isn't even that good anyway, choked in the playoffs this year.
