A 4th would be perfect. A 3rd might be ok, but I'm iffy. A second would be no deal.

a +20 goal scorer who consistently bring it night in a night out for a 4th rounder? The kings are not that stupid, or are they?

They're not going to take any garbage thrown their way. When was the last time a 4th round pick is worth more than Smyth? That's an insult to Smyth.

If Penner can net you a First plus Teubert, you better be giving them somewhere near a first round pick, or at least a number of picks.

It's mind boggling here when people think Hemsky's less than an 8th pick. Then thinking smyth is worth a 4th round pick or less. When has it ever been true that a top 6 forward can be had with some bs picks?

Next thing you know, CBJ offers up 2 first rounders (pick + voracek) for Carter. Hemsky is just as valuable as Carter. If we don't see anything near what CBJ gave to the flyers for Carter, we're not trading hemsky.

Nice if true.

Well played Tambo if this trade goes down.

Looks like the kings are getting screwed up the ass twice by the oilers, first they gave us a 1st and Teubert for fatboy penner. Now they give us Smyth in return for a 4th?

You would think Smyth >>> penner?

The Kings have no money left and Smyth is their second highest cap hit. He's also the oldest. They need to move someone, and they can't take any salary back. It's called a salary dump, and it happens. Ask Simon Gagne. Smyth may or may not have a NMC (is it still valid?) that he would have to waive in order to be moved, and has apparently said he would only go to Edmonton. If it all adds up, Smyth to the Oilers for nothing is about the Kings only option if they want to do anything on July 1st.

And no, an injury prone soon-to-be UFA Hemsky is not worth as much as a #1 centre on a long term deal.

It was comical listening to Stauffer today interviewing someone from Calgary radio (forget who it was). They were talking about who the Flames might get back for Regehr. The first 2 names out of his mouth were, "Ennis?"... "Pysyk?" The Flames are obsessed with getting players who are either former Oilers or from Edmonton, even their media knows it. If Mark McNeill is available at #13 and the Flames pass on him I will be absolutely floored.

Obviously these so called rumours to Calgary are false, Smyth has definitely said he wants back to Edmonton, and this is all Edmonton is offering. LA has already replaced Smyth on ice, so now its semantics moving his big salary, so they can go after some other needs.

When you need cap space and the guy has asked to go to one team and one team only, you really don't get much. Especially a guy who could very well retire at season end.

Could it be the Oilers are tying to ice a team entirely made up of Ryans?

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Ryan Jones
Ryan Whitney
Ryan Martindale
Ryan O'Marra
Ryan Smyth?

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Oilers land Bobby Ryan and Ryan Miller this summer...

Since when did we screw them on the Penner trade? Last time I checked, they have a proven 30 goal scorer and none of our assets have come near to touching the NHL yet.

As of right now, we lost that trade. That can change depending on how our picks/Teubert develop.

You're a little inconsistent here. I agree to your point about Smyth being worth more than a 4th, in fact it would almost be insulting to him to be traded for that. However, he's not worth much more than a salary dump and extra players to Edmonton.

I could see him being worth a 3rd round pick + one of Cogliano/Brule/Fraser/Foster/other redundant roster players on the team but still NHL calibre players, and former first rounders have more sex appeal.

Are we talking about the same Penner that was getting booed by Kings fans in the playoffs and has been ripped by their GM/coach in the media?

I liked Penner when he was here (still do), but he's been a complete mess down in LA.

Well OilersBoy

I'll say two words

CAP SPACE

That's the only reason LA wants to offload him. 6.25 million dollar 45 point player? You don't think they could find something better in FA for that much $? We would be clearing them a massive contract along with getting a hometown favourite back, his cap hit doesn't matter as we are near the cap basement and his contract is only one more year. But whatever. lol Think about it.

Would prefer Getzlaf over Bobby. Man, imagine our team with Miller and Getzlaf..

We are talking about the same Penner that would've led our team in points by a large margin had he not been traded.

So if Taylor Hall suddenly asks to get traded, would we take a 4th round pick?

I know it is a dumb source, but friend of mines GF is good friends with Smyths wife and she told her about a hour ago that LA's GM agreed to send Smyth to Edmonton.

She had no clue what it was for or when it will be announced but she does not lie and supposedly it is done.

If we get Ryan Smyth for a 4th, it's just another great example of how having tons of cap space allows you to get useful but overpaid assets on short term contracts for very little in return. It really allows you to maximize the value of your non-cash assets, and take advantage of spontaneous opportunities.

If those two words "CAP SPACE" is that important, let's give the Hawks a ring. Rather than give up our 4th rounder, let's raise the ante by giving the hawks a 3rd rounder for Jonathan Toews. I'll throw in next year's 2nd rounder if they want.

Is Hall a 35 year old, 20 goal/50 point player with a $6 million cap hit?
