From Kirk Luedeke:

Josiah Didier, D Cedar Rapids (USHL)- We're told that this kid is one of the bigger sleepers being mentioned in NHL circles and that someone could jump on him earlier than conventional thought. With good size, mobility and the raw tools to develop into a big league blue liner eventually, he's been under the radar for much of the season. Plays with an edge and will jump into the play/has puck-moving skills. He's got a lot to learn and may not have the instincts to be a two-way defenseman and regular in the NHL, but with his impressive physical attributes, is worth taking a chance on.

Timmins must have been going through withdrawl waiting until the 4th round to pick a USHL guy.

Rounds 4-7 are pretty much shots in the dark. If you hit you consider yourself lucky, if not then move on.

Didier was rated 108th on Central Scouting, 200th on Hockey prospects and not on Future considerations.

I thought we had a 3rd round pick....

No 2nd, no 3rd...

I'm sick and tired to give good picks for rentals.

We traded down with Winnipeg to get 2 4ths. One of which was ours from the Sopel deal. So technically yeah we did give away our 2nd and 3rd for rentals.

So, do we know what school he's going to? This directly affects how I feel about this pick.

Tough kid, he took a beating and it didn't really affect him, he was still willing to go more. I like that.

That's a good quality to have when you play the Bruins!

According to Marc-Antoine Godin, he's going to Denver University next season.

Positive report about him in Dobber's Fantasy Prospects 2011 :

Josiah Didier, D
2010-11 Team: Cedar Rapids (USHL)

Will the Colorado Avalanche make it a hometown hat trick? As a USHL rookie in 2010-11, rearguard Josiah Didier
posted the ninth-most goals in the league from the blueline (eight) to cap off a successful season that saw him collect
a total 21 points in 58 games. The strapping 6í2, 200 lbs rearguard was also a presence physically, dropping the
gloves twice en route to 72 PIM. A power-play fixture from Game One, Didierís calling card is his point
management and a hard, low snapshot that can beat goalies and create rebounds even from the point. In addition to
his offensive awareness, Didier is a strong 360-degree skater who leverages his long reach and gap control to
eliminate opponents along the wall. A Colorado native committed to play at DU, although the Avalanche are flush
with prospect defensemen, the only thing that could make Didierís season better would be to hear his name called by
his hometown NHL club.
Upside: Top-four rearguard, 10-30-40, 90+ PIM
Projected Round: 4th or 5th. If the Avalanche donít call out his name, the Kings are a good bet. They selected
USHL alum Kevin Gravel 148th last summer.
