Right forgot about that one. Thanks.

Anyway, we shouldn't even be counting Eller as he will be on LTIR to begin the season. Habs will probably take someone at around 1 mil on the market in the meantime.

I'm really happy that Markov is back... with him and PK we'll have two elite defencemen...

But 3 years was the worst type of contract possible. I wanted 1-2 or career ending contract... now he'll be 35+ when we'll have to re-sign him next go around...

Anyways, good news now to the big free agents fishes : Bieksa, Laich, Jagr, Richards...

Edit : Question... if the habs re-sign him to a contract extension in his last year... will it be a 35+ contract ? I don't think so... could be interesting ?

I'd rather see:

Markov - Wiz
Emelin - Subban
Gill - Gorges
Spacek

****ing Spacek, ****ing everything up. Would rather have Weber there.

As for the deal, very happy to have Markov back. Was never worried we'd let him go, glad Pierre came through.

I don't know how much he would make but .. I'll say it again

Konopka.

We sucked taking faceoffs last year .. Konopka took the 2nd most faceoffs on the Islanders last year and had a 57.7% on faceoffs ... he had 25 fights, his faceoff% in his own zone is ridicolous, he had 100+ hits while playing 10mins, etc..

Edit: More stats -- he was 4th in the NHL in defensive 5 vs 5 faceoff wins, 10th in the NHL in defensive zone PK faceoff wins, 300 PIM

In the meantime let Desharnais be 3rd line C

Maybe Markov signed 3 years because that's what he feels he has left to give. Maybe wants to call it quits at 35. Many players do.

And if he ever wants to continue, he'll probably retire a Habs anyway, and we'll sign him 1 year contracts then.

And maybe, just maybe the next CBA might relegate or modify this rule, especially since they will probably dwelve into long term contracts that go over the age of 40. Maybe Gauthier knows a lot of things that are going on around the league that we just don't know.

Good news on the Markov signing - I would've rathered 2 years but can live with 3.

Props need to be given to Marinaro. Many people on this board were saying he was a joke, a liar, spouting off, etc. He had this deal 2 DAYS before anyone else did, right down to the money. The only reason the term changed last minute was because something to do with insurance got straightened out, so they were able to give him another year.

Say what you want about Tony - but he was 100% right on this one.

He's still a joke, regardless of whether or not he's a liar.

Believe it or not, Paul homgren just ripped LA off. BIG TIME. And the carter deal is no biggy. You get a 21 year old who's put up 50 points and the number 8 pick which is going to turn out to be probabley ryan murphy, who's dynamite.

This is a bargain if he stays healthy. No one knows his knee better than the Canadiens org so they must trust he'll be OK. I think he's been mostly unlucky, the problem isn't that he's made of glass.

You've got it wrong.
They won the Carter Deal.
They lost the Richards deal.

I largely agree.

In any event, trading one for space made sense some sense. Trading both cripples their forward group. Schenn can't play a serious role right out of junior and Voracek is a compliment not a driver of results like Richards or Carter. Philadelphia's ability to compete in the present has been severely downgraded. And in the future they need to deal with the inevitable decline of their top 2 defenseman.

Schenn's potential is to be Mike Richards. Mike Richards is already Mike Richards and signed long term for very reasonable cap.

I doubt Schenn ever becomes that good, I may be wrong though.

He's not a ****** bag like Richards though.

That's the point, if at best your getting Mike Richards, why would you trade Mike Richards for him?

You also get two other assets in Wayne Simmonds and a 2nd round pick.

Voracek is not a compliment. He might be right now, but the kid has it all in him. Take it from me who watched him a lot in Halifax. This kid ate Claude Giroux for breakfast in a game I saw.

he would have got AT LEAST 6.5 on the market, maybe more. We all know someone who have taken a gamble on him.

Under 6 is a very good price. I don't remember his old salary. I think it's the same but I'm not sure.

Ooooooook. Would you like to provide examples of how he's "a joke"? He's by far and away one of the best Habs analysts in my opinion. What am I missing here? Is it cool to hate on Marinaro?

Regardless of what you think, he had the scoop 2 days before the deal. That's an eternity in "rumour" time, and pretty darn impressive if you ask me.
