Are we looking at any back up goalies, or do we depend on Gustavsson?

Do we depend on Gustavsson to be the back up, with his health issues/struggles, can we risk not picking up someone else? Or are we just going with him and if things don't go well we just call up Scrivens? Is this basically the plan?

People are writing off Gusty way too quickly.

This one is a mystery. No telling what they are thinking in regards to the back-up goalie.

Imo, if Gusty can prove his health isn't any issue (heart) he's the guy.

May even become the starter or platoon.

How many games do you think Reimer could play?
I think a Brodeur/Price workload is out of the question.

I've brought this up many times but a Biron-Gustavsson swap would be great for both teams.

We get a vet back up who can handle a large workload and help out Reimer with his experience.

They get a young goalie with upside who will be motivated to learn under his idol, Lundqvist.

Why not? It's not like he's completely useless. He's a great back up in my opinion, and he's only gonna get better.

bring back Jiggy. Gustavsson provides zero stability and Reimer is still too unexperienced

pretty much this.

I don't see Reimer playing more than 60 games next season. I suspect giggy will be re-signed and play the other games along with gustavsson

They'll go with Reimer/Gusty to start and if Gusty falters they can always sign or trade for a cheap backup vet who can start 15-20 games.

No, man. 3 goalies for the entire year? Not going to happen, I don't think so. Giggy should be done here.

I don't think this is a top priority. A vet back up (if needed) can be had at any time during the summer.

I'm fine with The Monster, this will be the year we decide if we should keep him, in fairness he has had a few excuses that anyone of us would have difficulty concentrating on our jobs. We persued him hard, give him some leeway to prove himself.

Yes, Burke said that he was looking for help from outside at every position except goaltending.

THIS.

Burke said he was confident in the goaltending he had going into the season, and wasn't looking to sign anyone.

Seriously if its not Gustavsson, itll by Rynnas, if its not Rynnas itll be Scrivens.

We have 4 guys who are likely capable of starting an NHL game. They're all young and could provide adequate goaltending if we got into trouble.

But I think Monster will be fine. He'll get 30 starts this year and Reimer will get 50+. Gus was great last year at times and poor at others. But he's still very young, and if not hampered by health issues I think can be a very good 1b guy in this league... and a more than capable backup.

Agreed. If for some reason either falter, one of Scrivens or Rynnas may be able to jump in. Gus has alot to prove with his UFA coming up next year, and unless Burke for some reason trades the monster, I don`t see how else Giggy comes back. The monster has the tools to be a goalie in the NHL, just needs to stay healthy and consistent and stop breaking his sticks.

Scrivens is ahead of Rynnas in his development, I think he's NHL ready and may even challenge Reimer this year.

How so, besides the fact he is older (I think). Rynnas put up some very good numbers in the AHL as well, before he got injured.

I'd love that move..honestly. How can the Leafs run with a bunch of rookies..guys on the farm have ZERO NHL experience. Reimer has 30 games and Gustavsson has 40+ games but also has re-curring health issues. The Leafs should be adding a goalie to their depth but I doubt its going to happen. A lot of fans are happy to go with Reimer and "The Monster" next year. For me its a big risk relying on two young and for the most part unproven goalies....I do love Reimer but can he repeat his stellar goal tending of last year and project that over 50-60 games?

giggy should NOT be resigned at all. i also don't think burke needs to look at goaltenders right now we have several guys (including gustavsson) who all should get a chance to proove that they can be a decent backup, if not starter.

Rynnas had a fantastic November, but other than that he struggled heavily with consistency before he got injured. It's to be expected that he would take longer given he has to adjust to the North American game. Scrivens was basically consistently good whenever he played, I think he's closer. I still think Rynnas has a higher ceiling, but right now I'd take Scrivens over him.
