The All Things Brad Richards Thread

Pat Morris was just on the Fan 590 and said that Brad would definitely consider the Leafs.

I don't know where these rumours of him not willing to come to Toronto come from?

I don't know why anyone would think he wouldn't.

This is the best alternative to getting a center without killing the future.

I'm sure he'd consider any team. I would feel more confident if his agent said "richards would be exicted to play in Toronto"

Hopefully Burke heard this and is thinking twice about grabbing and trading for a centre. Instead pay up for him Burkie!!

The interview was unbelievable.

Pat Morris says that the camp believes Toronto is a perfect fit, the only thing that they need to discuss is money and term, IF Toronto is interested.

He even said he expects Toronto to meet him face-to-face on July 1st since his office is in Oakville.

I can't believe how open he was about it. Makes me think they are trying to drum up the price.

EDIT: Of course he did say all teams will be heard out, but he specifically indicated that Toronto is a perfect fit after he sat down with Brad and discussed the city, the system, the powerplay, the team, the direction, the coach, etc. etc.

his agent would be idiot if he said he would't consider Leafs. Of all teams, Leafs can offer him the most (not sure if Leafs would though). however, this could be totally to up his price.

Well he's gettin older and probably wants to win a cup within the next few years which the Leafs likely won't. Either way I think his primary motivation is money, so I think he will consider anyone.

"Consider" isn't good enough to not trade for #1 center if I was burke... Teams can change their mind right after he signs with the rangers/sabres/flyers/etc

Sorry for quick second post, sorry for being skeptic but:

Burke too said he'd consider the Richards deal before it was gone.

His agent isn't going to go on the radio and say Brad doesn't want to play for the Leafs. He gave a general response. I'm sure Brad will "consider" a lot of teams.

Thanks for taking the time to write the main points of the interview Andrew. I agree. The interview was great!

Ahem, he also named every NHL team yesterday on TSN, even the defunct one's and laughed. There is a reason why he is the number 1 agent today, he knows how to make a market and drive up prices.

He also said that this will be Richards last contract and that he will be looking for a Long Term Contract. Something that Burkie has refused to do, he even testified against the Devils and Jersey Lou his College coach for the League, saying it was a breach of CBA.

He never said no. And he was a member of the Dallas Stars at the time. He's not going to say yeah I'd rather play somewhere else..

sequence of events:

1) Burke tries to trade for Richards rights.
2) Richards declines to waive NTC
3) Rumours of Burke trying to trade for another #1 emerge (eg. Stastny)
4) Richards' agent goes into damage control

Wasn't it confirmed Richards denied trade to Philly yesterday?

Man, this is going to be a tough day for Burke. Unless there's some sort of agreement with Pat and the Leafs for the rights on Richards or Richards himself saying he wants on the Leafs, we still try for a plan B just incase he changes his mind.

I heard the one on TSN, what did he say? let me guess, Brad will consider any offer on the table. He thinks Toronto is a nice city, who wouldn't want to play here, but saying this Mike knows this is his last contract so we will be looking at all the options brought to us.

I think it was a pretty general response. He's considered toronto. He's thought about what role he would play and the situation the team is in. Blah blah.
