I think the length of the contract affects the agent's quality of life more than the player's when you are talking about that kind of coin.

I bet Tampa is hoping Stamkos gets offer sheeted so that they can get a huge compensation package and free up $$ to sign Richards.

Could TB be the team waiting to make an ownership decision in the direction of the team?

That makes no sense. There's no difference to it.

If you are against it, you are against it. It doesn't matter who signed the deal for you. Carter will play until his later 30's, no matter if you signed him or not.

In the end, he's willing to do what it takes to get a center and it looks like his philosophy changed on long-term contracts.

It's good news for Leaf fans.

If that were the case, I'm sure he could get a better package VIA trade...

I think it does, he has no problem paying Lupul or Phaneuf 4.5 or 6.5. But he's a lot more hard headed with Mac for instance. He's also said many times he will take back salaries for picks or prospects.

I hope to god we stay away from Richards. Not like he is going to turn us into a contender and he is already over 30.

**** that.

Not necessarily. Depends on teams who are interested or what their financial situation is like (i.e. whether they have an internal cap) among other things.

So apparently old people are useless. Teams aren't eager to trade thier young stars. This team need some vet experience around.

How are we not a contender with Richards? I just don't understand this line of thinking!

Getting Richards is just not about turning us into a contender now. If we consistently win with him, then it creates a winning attitude for the team. He would also allow Kessel to grow in his role as an elite sniper. And he would also buy time for Kadri and Colborne to develop properly. One player could have a huge trickle effect with the team.

One player can have that kind of effect. I don't see B. Richards as being one of those guys though. I don't really think there are any in this years FA pool.

See what Recchi did in the cup finals at 43 years young? Brad is an elite center and he's only 31.

Richards is a game changer.

The 90 point Conn Smythe center ISN'T a game changer? There you have it!

Richards essentially fills two major holes. He replaces Kaberle as our go to puck mover on the point on the PP. He also fills our need for a top line center. Not only a top line center, but a clutch top line center with a Conn Smythe on his resume. Not only a top line center who can QB a PP who has a Conn Smythe, but he's a playmaker which is the exact kind of guy we need next to Kessel.

He's everything this team needs right now. 7 years, 56 million (8 mil hit).

Year 1: 12 million
Year 2: 11 million
Year 3: 10 million
Year 4: 9 million
Year 5: 6 million
Year 6: 4 million
Year 7: 4 million

Do it Burkie.
