So it sounds like Shinnimin has been awfully impressive so far, is that right?

There's only so much you can take out of one practice, but the one thing I noticed about Shinnimin was his compete level on the puck. Despite being a smaller guy he certainly gave the bigger dmen a lot of issues in the corner. Kind of reminded me a bit of Chad LaRose in that regard. It also sounds like Chris Brown is having a good start are they developing chemistry together? Also, good to hear Szwarz had a good game always liked watching that guy play.

they will start opening night in Glens Falls....

SEARCH FOR WLOB Radio, and you'll see the listen live which should be powered by Mainstream Networks, and Jeff Mannix's radio call off 95.5 which is all under Atlantic Coast Radio....

should be http://www.wlobradio.com

Is there a question??? Yes, the Pirates played the CIS team. It's happened in the past and UNB is a tough team to play.

It seems like a shocking disparity in competition level and it honestly blows my mind completely that these are competitive scrimmages. If the Tucson Sidewinders played the Mesa Community College Firebirds, and it was a one run game, I'd have to have my jaw surgically removed from the floor.

Judging from that article it doesn't seem that bad. Sounds like there's some underrated talent on that team. Plus we didn't even ice our vets. If talented over agers from junior and former pros are allowed to go get an education and play there I'm sure their level of talent is quite high. Hockey more so than any sport IMO can lend itself to plenty of upsets as well.

In all seriousiness... If you look at the actual roster you'd been surprised that the talent level is closer than you might think.

Max Villimaire and Mike Lee have been assigned to the Gwinnett Gladiators. They join Louis Domingue and Justin Weller in the ECHL. The Pirates have 26 players remaining (16F, 8D & 2G) remaining in camp.

Pirates fall in OT to Monarchs
By Chris Roy Published: 7th October 2012

Quote:
PORTLAND – Ray Edwards understood there was going to be a learning curve this season for the Portland Pirates.

Now for the Pirates’ head coach, he can identify what needs to be addressed before they open their season less than a week from today in Glens Falls, New York.
The Pirates held a 2-1 lead into the third period, but couldn’t hold on as the Manchester Monarchs prevailed, 3-2, in overtime during an exhibition game at Portland Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Probably a bad example

I would think such a scenario is more likely to happen in baseball than any other sport.

understand preseason game however

“We’ve got to figure out a way to finish that game.” said Edwards

I recognize Swan, Denny, and Shutron as higher end NHL draft picks, but also as guys who failed to make an impact in the AHL, ECHL, or lower. I don't see how the talent level is close. I mean, I suppose maybe some of these guys could've been good AHLers but don't want to end up getting paid 60k a year for another five or six years only to find themselves out of the sport with zero work experience and no education. I get why Swan instead opted for a degree and then continued to play while in grad school. It makes sense. But how in the world is that close to an AHL roster? It seems an awful lot like Mystery Alaska to me.

Will be paying a lot more attention the Pirates now that the NHL is taking a hiatus. It pisses me off frankly. I can see how DM would not be too eager for OEL to be in the AHL. He's already proven and it would take away playing time from other defenders. Still, it's not gonna hurt and will probably be the best for the the greater good; Coyotes and Pirates. Maybe they play him every other game or something. I know they do lots of back to backs down there, they could use his sparsely but still keep him in game shape.

Don't know how I feel about the goaltending. Never believed in Chad Johnson. Hopefully either he'll prove me wrong or Viz will step up as a rookie. Will be interesting to see when Domingue gets in there.

Pirates power-less against the Monarchs
By Chris Roy Published: 9th October 2012

Quote:
SALEM, NH – The good news for the Portland Pirates was this game didn’t count toward the standings. The bad news is the next time they play, it will.

The Pirates gave up five power-play goals to the Manchester Monarchs en route to suffering a 7-1 loss in their exhibition finale Monday afternoon at the ICENTER in Salem, NH.

AHL Live radio is free, or at least it was last year and years prior.
