Yes that would be correct - the Winnipeg reference was because he apparently has interviewed there.

Not sure if it has been posted but, we signed Dean Arsene. Which I am assuming will be in a Pirate uniform.

TSN has Dane Byers signing with Columbus.

Edit: Any suggestions/rumours regarding veteran forwards for Portland?

As has been speculated in other threads, Tikhonov and MacLean are probably not going to clear waiver if they are assigned so the forward ranks appear to be a little thin beyond Beaudoin and Bolduc. Who might the team be looking to sign to bring some gravitas to the forward ranks?

Matt Ellis - he's spent time in both the Detroit and Buffalo organizations, both of which are well-run/well coached. He's not a sniper but he puts up his share of points.

Or will the braintrust leave it to Bolduc, Beaudoin and Pouliot (assuming all are cut and clear waivers) to provide veteran leadership for the youth upfront?

Wasn't Hollweg a pretty big part (not scoring, of course) of the Ramapge both on the ice and in the dressing room last year? Surprised he hasn't been resigned..

I'd love to see Ellis back, he was in a Pirates uniform last year.

The Portland Pirates now know who their head coach will be for this season.

At times, it wasn’t so certain.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Ray Edwards declined an assistant coaching position with the Winnipeg Jets.

A couple points that didn't come out of the stream today...

Pirates will be looking for a new assistant coach. Jeff Truitt has taken a position within the Dallas Stars organization. Eric Weinrich is a candidate, but is still under contract with the Sabres.

Some of the more likely possibilities would include Chicago, South Carolina, Kalamazoo and Trenton based on geography and the fact these teams (based on last years hookups) appear to only have a single NHL/AHL affiliate.

Another possibility might be swapping affiliates with Florida to improve the AHL/ECHL proximity for both organizations. That would leave Phoenix/Portland affiliated with Cincinnati while Florida/San Antonio would lineup with Las Vegas.

Probably won't play out that way, it just makes too much sense.

I've heard South Carlolina might be an option, sharing with Hershey/Washington. But, that being said. Cincinnati makes huge sense because of travel to and from Portland/Cincy is very simple by Delta.

Pouliot has agreed to a one year deal, two way $605K over $105K as per capgeek.

kinda surprised that phx didn't try to sign any of buff UFA to give the locals some players they already know like most teams do when changing minor league affiliates.

They may not be done... A couple things are in the works. Time will tell.
