Well I was wrong, we didnt take a russian.
But we got grit instead. He moved a first in a win sooner than later move. Balls. I like it even if he overpaid some. Maybe a change of direction.

If they were serious about intangibles trading Semin and/or Green would be #1 on their to-do list.

Definitely a move that helps the club immediately rather than keeping the draft pick. As much as I am a draftnik I don't mind the move. Does seem like a bit of a steep price.

Meh. Brouwer's a decent winger. Good insurance for Laich leaving. More work to do still.

Scouting Report
Assets
Has the combination of size and scoring upside that scouts drool over. Is a punishing body checker, but he can also play well without the puck.
Flaws
Needs to work on his skating in order to maximize his scoring potential at the highest level. Must prove his junior numbers weren't a fluke.
Career Potential
Big two-way winger.
Awards2009Stanley Cup2006AHL - Second All-Star Team2006AHL - All-Rookie Team
20 Goal scorer with grit and we still complain. McPhee can do no right.

Did Brouwer play a lot of LW? He can fill in for Laich.... if he is a LW. Otherwise Semin is moved over. I think there is more Brouwing.

Updates much appreciated. It'll be interesting to see what the Caps sign Brouwer for. If it's for comparable money to what Laich gets, I may rage.
And does anyone know the compensation salary levels for RFAs?

I wouldn't think Brouwer will make much north of $2M. RFA comp. tables are in the new contracts thread.
