SWhyno: GMGM said every player #Caps were interested in was gone by 21, 22. But deal for Brouwer was made before draft.

Knuble took a paycut but I could see that happening if there are UFA years included. I believe he's potentially two years away from UFA.

Scouting Report
Assets
Has the combination of size and scoring upside that scouts drool over. Is a punishing body checker, but he can also play well without the puck.

Flaws
Needs to work on his skating in order to maximize his scoring potential at the highest level. Must prove his junior numbers weren't a fluke.

Career Potential
Big two-way winger.

Awards
2009Stanley Cup
2006AHL - Second All-Star Team
2006AHL - All-Rookie Team

SUN_TYCHKOWSKI: They say Vancouver's pick, Nick Jensen, is already diving at an NHL level.

GMGM needs to swing a trade for a 2nd rounder somehow, to get one specific prospect, making this draft a promising one for WSH, despite only having a handful of picks at this point.

Chimera must be worth a 2nd rounder you'd think.

I'd be surprised. Schultz maybe. Perhaps Perreault later on for a fifth or sth (Lepisto'd).

Pittsburgh takes another defenseman in the second. Detroit gets a big potential steal in Sproul.

Kucherov to TB.

Filatov to OTT for #66.

If they're going for upside with their picks--and they might as well--then I'd think players at the more under the radar levels (European leagues or lower level NA leagues) are more likely to be under consideration. That and maybe some CHL late bloomers.

Still a way to go but some good players left.

Chicago takes a guy the Caps may have had pegged in Maxim Shalunov.

Seth Ambroz still available surprisingly, although reports were he was a bad interview.

Kinda surprised that Ambroz has slid this far, even with a bad interview. If he's still around in Round 5, I'd say pick him. Got better potential than anyone else you could grab at that point.

McPhee is clearly implementing one of my fantasy football strategies. I load up on all the good tight ends and force people to overpay to get production out of that spot. Clearly McPhee doesn't realize that nobody pays for goalies these days, though.

Steffen Soberg, G – Manglerud Stars (Nor.)

Soberg parlayed a batten-down-the-hatches performance at the world under-18s into big buzz, culminating in International Scouting Services anointing him the top European-based goaltender around in its May ranking. The 5-foot-11 netminder also nabbed rookie of the year honors back in Norway’s top league.
