What was the penalty? I would live to see him just develop a mean streak to him

Brodin got 2 + 10 for "checking from behind." I know they're incredibly protective at that level, but don't know the specifics of the rules. I haven't seen the hit so no way to tell whether it was a bad play, bad call, or unfortunate accident.

I'd say he deserved the penalty.

Checking from behind is an automatic 2+10 in junior play. Haven't seen the hit either but the refs had no decision on what amount of time to give him there.

They interviewed Jonas after the game and she who interviewed him thought he got the 10 cause of talk but Brodin said he was quiet and skated directly to the box and then got surprised he got a 10 cuz the hit was quite light.

He also said it was his first 10 min penalty in his career.

They also talked abit about his nose. He said it's fine now but he will continue to play with a grill or whatever the right word for it is.

A full-mask/cage?

Thanks for the update though. It seems he feels a bit bad about the hit, even if he was surprised. If that is really his first 10 minute penalty, then I'm a big fan. Discipline is a great thing to have, especially as a defender. I cannot wait to see him throughout the rest of the tournament.

Unless, does the 10 minute penalty disqualify him from any games, does anyone know? I know the 10 minutes was automatic with the hit from behind, but does that mean any suspensions or anything?

Don't believe it does.

I don't think I've ever seen him get a penalty for something other than hooking or tripping in Färjestad. Tho he doesn't hit as much as other D's. He pokechecks them, stealing the puck instead.

Pretty sure it has to be a match penalty to carry an automatic suspension in international play.

Brodin was picked as team Sweden player of the game by the coach in an interview after the game yesterday.

Jonas scored no points but got a 2 min pen for high-sticking.

Edit: He paired up with Klefbom.

One thing I like is that he looks very mature when he plays, very poised and smart with his positions and decision making.

Brodin got much praise after tonights game, one of them praising him yet again was the team Sweden coach.

Brodin had one helper, 2 shots on goal and went +2.

**** me sideways and slap me with a stick, what a game that was!

Brodin got player of the game in Team Sweden and must have played 30+ minutes. He and Klefbom were matched against Kuznetzov and Gusev but also got to play alot of PP.

Brodin had an assist on the late 3-3 goal. Not sure if he had more assists. I'll check it when I wake up.

If u haven't seen the game watch it in replay if u can! WJC at it's finest, one of the best games I've ever seen.

Is this the whole game? And I don't suppose it has English announcers, does it?

I'm headed to bed right now(at three in the morning. Jesus.) but I'll definitely watch it. I have not seen nearly enough of our Brodin. Looking forward to it.

Jonas had 2 shots yesterday and got +2.

Here's the highlights with Swedish commentary.
They went absolutely bananas at the last 3 Swedish goals.

They hugged each other like crazy and I think they actually cried after the 3-3 goal.

Really only the 2nd goal that was weak, and that was probably due to the rink size change.
He made a fantastic save in the 3rd on Kuznetzov that saved us the game.

Färjestad goalie coach Erik Granqvist who trained Johan at the same time as Jonas Gustavsson in Färjestad a couple of years ago, a few weeks back said that Johan is the next one of the Swedish goalies. And that his will to get better and win is extreme.

Erik is together with Lundqvist the reason why Sweden got this new goalie boom the last few years.
Granqvist made Jonas Gustavsson, Henrik Karlsson and now Christopher Nihlstorp go from pretty much total unknowns to Team Sweden quality and NHL material in 1-2 seasons. I'd say he knows what he's talking about.

Tho Johan is about 5 years younger than all of them and much can happen with prospects in younger years.

Judging by one game, way to go.
