I am sure some here said the same of Marcus. And maybe even Nick.
and marcus and nick made rookie mistakes in the playoffs as young players that as veterans they wont make.
pavel datsyuk was good in the playoffs as a young guy. he is far better now. i dont buy that players dont become more effective with years of repeatition.
This kid had more hits than Dustin Brown or was right up there with him. That is very impressive and from the Hawks games I seen he always finishes his checks. A huge step in the right direction.
I agree...we still need more players who can lay wood when forchecking opposing D to wear them down. Ovechkin finally has a little help (outside of 4th liners who play 5-10 mins a game). Our top 9 really lacks in physicality from top to bottom.
I already liked the trade before we resigned Laich. This team needs a forecheck in the worst way. Hopefully if Sjogren is on the 4th line that adds too it as well.

heh we were talking wanting playoff experience in our potential pickups. No one said players dont get better with more reps.
If Nick and Marcus as 5 year vets make it to the loffs for the first time, do you think they would make rookie mistakes? Of course not. Maybe like Tampa. Our greater playoff experience in our core players didnt seem to help at all. Hedman may have out performed our 4 young D.
I like this move more that they retained Laich and Brouwer is set to be a 3rd line role-player. For which he is better suited than anyone the Caps have.

Agreed, but I see him on our 2nd line now. Will our 3rd line have an identity? Who do you think we will have as 2C brooks wings. Semin, probably... Fehr Flash Sturm. Chimera. Marcus. UFA or trade or... Brouwer. George has more work to do. Lets give him a few more days and revaluate. Too much up in the air right now.

I feel like Bouwer and Laich will mostly move around the 2nd and 3rd lines. Maybe the first if they decide to try Knuble on different lines. However I doubt that any of them will ever be on the same even strength line since their main offensive bread and butter is clean up goals.
I still feel strongly that Eakin will be the third line sniper but until I see how free agency plays out we won't know who the Center is on the third line. Though as it stands right now I still say the organization is confident in Sjorgen hence the max rookie deal they gave him.
Either way I think we can all agree that it's the third and fourth line that are a huge mystery. Chimera, Fehr, Gordo, Eakin, Sjogren, Hendricks, Beagle all competing for 5 spots with a strong possibility that they're going to bring in someone else.
I always make my lines from the top down. We need a top 6.
Dont go too heavy on the Eakin Koolaid. I was at Kettler when he scored the OT scrimmage winner. I am on board. He has to beat out Hendricks and Chimera to land a bottom 6LW spot. Has to beat out Marcus SoJo and maybe Gordon for a C spot. RW he battles Brouwer Fehr and Beagle.
Lets see what George does next, maybe he opens up a spot to continue the youth movement.
What's taking so long...will he make it to July 1st?
Why wouldn't he? Signing RFA's before July 1st isn't that big a deal unless they're the big names. Brouwer isn't exactly the type of guy you worry about getting offer sheeted, and GMGM didn't seem afraid of arbitration if that's what it got to.
I don't know about you guys, but I for one cannot wait until OV lifts the cup next year, and then in true 2001 Colorado Avalanche fashion, quickly hands it off to Mattias Sjogren as he cries and skates laps with it, going down as possibly the most memorable Cup moment of all time.

Here's hoping Sjogren turns out as well as Sykora.

So you guys think it's unrealistic to project him as a third/fourth liner?
