he`s not.....yet the Caps will probably give Brouwer 4 mil....let Laich walk to Philly for 4.5 and then sign Semin for 5 yrs at 6.5

brouwer: listed as a LW. cup ring. played only 11:00 per playoff game. scored 4+4 for 8. outscored andrew ladd for comparison. averaged 1:00 of pp time in the cup run.

bradley and laich have not been offered a deal. i'd assume this player is for some of that ice time.

i dont see the first rounder value here, but i do see the need for successful playoff experience. this guy has a cup and produced. he lead the blackhawks in hits this past season.

based on his salary to come this player replaces bradley's role while taking laich's ice time, IMO

If the comparables for these picks are remotely accurate then I guess I don't blame GMGM for being eager to move the pick. Still an overpay, but whatever.

He is an RFA? Lots of hits... I am a bit confused. Maybe a deal was signed / groundwork laid before the trade.

We wouldnt have gotten Biggs the guy I wanted anyway.

Like always, we have to wait to grade trades proper.

What I want to know is can he help with creating a viable second PP unit? Personally I'm all for someone that can replicate Knuble's skill set, at least on the offensive end.

Trying to figure out where Sjorgen, Chimera, Fehr, and Bouwer fit. Most likely will see Eakin come up as well

I probably like Brouwer much more than some of my Hawk friends... so take that in consideration with this post.

I think Brouwer is a versatile player. He was good, for the most part, with Toews and Kane and is a good third-wheel option on a top line. He hits a ton (although not too many of them are huge ones), he has a good shot, has worked on his skating a lot and isn't too terrible defensively.

He's more of a 3rd line player by definition, but he's got enough scoring knack to be okay on a scoring line. He hits, he grinds and can work a cycle game and post up in front of goalies well.

He didn't fit on the Hawks going forward, and that's why we moved him. He was reportedly asking for 2.5 mil, which is too much from a Hawks perspective.

I hope he does well in Washington and can find a niche on your team. He is a nice piece to have... but probably not worth a 1st rounder.

Both Sjogren and Brouwer are bigger than Bradley and with some offensive upside.

So if this means Laich is gone, how about trying to trade his rights?

I was thinking about sure fire NHLers available at #26. I'm sure there's tons of them.

SWhyno: GMGM on Brouwer: "He’s a power forward who can get us 20 goals a year and play physical ... and is supposed to be a real good leader."

I can see the comments we would have gotten had we taken Namestnikov.

"Oh no not a another Euro."

"McPhee never adds grit and physicallity."

"Not another skill player"

"The team needs veterans not draft picks."

"He's like 5 pounds soaking wet."

I love it - If GMGM keeps the pick and drafts one of the Russians the boards complain he's soft and GMGM doesn't value hitting.

GMGM trades for a physical player - a little overpayment but not brutal - and people complain and bash his cup and being top 5 in the league in hitting - I AM SOOO confused

The guy that picked 26th - is a hard worker character guy who will probably be a bottom 6 guy according to tsn guys in 3 or 4 years.

people complain GMGM is constantly rebuilding then bash him for a legit NHL player. I am not a koolaid GMGM guy or an antiGMGM guy but alot of you should just say you are never going to evaluate the deal on merit just hate it because it's GMGM - the WAPost comments is even worse

totally agree....and I love Brouwer but if he`s looking for 2.5 and we lose Laich it`ll be a wash,...on a positive note...Brouwer`s had a ton of fights, I`m liking that
