Norman Flynn said that Beaulieu reminds him of Josh Gorges. Worst comparison ever

Josh Gorges was an offensive beast in Junior, Gorges has put up better numbers than Beaulieu in junior. Josh Gorges had 59 points on the Kelowna Rockets when they also had Duncan Keith who was a year ilder and more mature who only put up 48 points. That same team had Shea Weber put up 18 points. Gorges also led all of them in +/-.

It's not a horrible comparison if you consider all the factors. Gorges has been given a role and excelled at it. He's also probably got some untapped offensive talent but in reality he lacks the size (hard shot) and speed to excel because of the punishment he put his body through to make it as a regular on a very tough D squad to crack.

Which is the point. Right now they're completely different players. I love Gorgy, but if thats the best Beaulieu will amount to I'll be dissapointed.

Just watched John Lu's report from Brossard on TSN.

Are people really getting uptight that Beaulieu doesn't speak French? Certain people really have to find a life... Fly to Vegas or something.

What I find funny is that most of the people who would complain about it probably butcher the french language and would look like a fool in front of reporters compared to how poised and articulate Beaulieu is for an 18 year old.

Think about it, a reporter thinking oh sweet there's Nathan Beaulieu. Finally someone I don't have to translate. Time to get a couple of quotes from him in French.

Reporter: Bonjour Nathan.
Beaulieu: Bonjour.
Reporter: Est ce que je peux vous demandez quelque question?
Bealieau: Sorry I can't speak French.
Reporter: lol
Beaulieu: No seriously, but I'm going to get better though. Going to ask my friends in the Q for help.
Reporter: FUUUUUUUUUUUé

Gorges and Beaulieu basically played in two different junior eras ntm in two very different leagues.

Ugh and your Weber Gorges Keith comparison is lame... two junior years is a huge difference.

LOL, Yeah a reporter in a Major City has to dig a little. BIG let down after seeing the name come up in the draft, I guess? whatever, it's not important, never was, never will be.

This reporter should go take some french lessons himself.

Beaulieu was drafted because he was the BPA.

People need to let go of the language thing.

The lads francophone father moved from Quebec in search of his hockey dreams to where English was dominant. The kid spoke English as a result.

As someone who is in the same position as Beaulieu; myself having an Acadien french speaking parent who came to southern New Brunswick who ultimately sacrificed language, even to we children as a result, to experience what was beyond at the time. I so understand what this kid is experiencing. The last thing he needs at this time is unfair activism.

It's a Joke from an Anglo perspective. He's just impersonating a Franco reporter on the Isle.

Beaulieu is so calm and articulate. Great maturity for a kid his age. I still can't believe we got him, he's gonna be looked as one of the steals of that draft.

Steal ?

He just fell on the Habs' lap. They had no choice but to take him. Like Fowler last season for Anaheim.

And I am glad about it !

John asked Nathan if he was aware of the "mini backlash" on the language issue. Even I wasn't aware there was a "mini backlash" ! I haven't heard a single person complaining.
But I guess it's a convenient stereotype to use...

Not even his fault anyways. He was born out of Quebec and his francophone mother opted to teach him only english. I don't get why it falls on Nathan's lap when he wasn't even given the choice by his parents.

I thought I recalled him saying his mother was French. Oh well, my mistake then. So now the heat falls onto daddy.

Hopefully a lot better than Fischer. Hard to compare with McDonagh and Tinordi as they are different style players and not yet a "finished product".

Exactly. I haven't heard of any kind of "backlash" about Bealieu's lack of french. But seeing as Mr. Lu probably doesn't read, write or speak french, I'd be curious about how he came up with that. Probably just presumed...

The only comparison I can see with Gorges is the way they conduct themselves off the ice and/or attitude.
