26 points as an 18 year old playing at BC. I'm intrigued, but I feel like, at the moment, this is one step forward and one step back. Depends on what we do from here.

The part that kills me is throwing in the Wild's 2nd next year. That could end up being and prospect on the same level who the Wild select at 28 (I'm guessing Lucia/Saad/Ambroz)...
Yeah that 2nd will look bad if its in the 30s. Also Seto's deal makes him a UFA in 3 years, whereas if it were 2 he'd still be RFA after it.

Coyle and Granlund 2012!

Can't forget how Coyle will fit in the top six in the future as well...

Well, Cullen was supposed to be a forward who could play the point, and that worked out so well.

Not that I disagree, in principle. It's just not a perfect plan.

And while I also agree with the bolded portion, the recent deep playoff teams have proven that you at least need SOMEONE on the back end to be offensive. We've now basically got Zid and *crickets*.

Let's not get carried away here, Brodziak is not a top six center. He's a placeholder for a year until Granlund comes in. He should be third line center but Matt Cullen sucks and took all our money instead.

Setoguchi is a good player, but 35-40 goals, come on. I'm guessing 25-30 playing with Koivu. He's a better Antti Miettinen.

Charlie Coyle, I don't know much about. Everyone says he's a stud, looks like he scored 7 goals in 37 games last year for Boston U. Meh.

Late 1st could be good. I'd like to see if we can get Puempel or Grimaldi with that pick. Lots of skill, players underrated due to size/injury.
Obviously Burns either wanted way too much money or didn't want to re-sign, and good for Fletcher to get something for him. But getting Setoguchi is a "win now" move, and we have complete **** for defense right now. Schultz is a good defenseman, not a guy you play against the other team's top line though. Zidlicky is a PP specialist. Zanon sucks. Barker sucks. Stoner and Spurgeon are good rookies that you don't want on the ice against the other team's top six. Scandella's probably not ready for a big role. Is Brodin supposed to step in and play on our top pairing?

Otherwise we're going to have to make a trade or sign at least two quality defensemen, and that's going to be expensive. So Fletcher sure as hell better know what he's doing otherwise the fans are going to REALLY vote with their dollars this year.

Don't worry, we still have Spurgeon!

Seriously, that's pretty much the first thing I thought after the announcement.

he is a center or RW. he can skate, good at faceoffs, very mature physically. has NHL size - now. he could play tomorrow, if you wanted to rush him out of college, but the plan was to let him stay.

he's built (look him up w/o a shirt on lol). strong, good in the corners and can play in any role: PK, PP. look for him to be one of the leaders for Team USA at the WJC.

I'm slowly starting to like this trade.

Getting Seto is good.
Getting a first-round pick is good, especially because we don't have a 2nd round pick.
Losing Burns feels really bad, but hopefully we can get somebody via free agency.

Can someone tell me something about Charlie Coyle?

Coyle and Granlund 2012!
Pretty much my thoughts on all accounts. With the draft being so strong next year and with the Wild not exactly looking like they'll be a strong team at this point, well, it'll be interesting. If it's, say, a third, I feel a little better about it. And I'm one to not get too riled up about picks...

2012 should be interesting, though. There's going to be a nice infusion of young talent coming down the pike. And that's not something we've seen in a while.

We should start a thread with possible UFA D targets? I guessing a shutdown D who may also teach our young prospects.

Don't be surprised if we go back to Sweden(Rask)/Europe(Jaskin) or another d-man at #28.

Also, look at it this way. Phaneuf got 6 years 39M(6.5M). He had a rough year and fetched Hagman, Stajan, and White. I'd take Coyle over Stajan, Seto over Hagman, and a late 1st over White.

Puempel or Grimaldi at 28th will make me fully satisfied with this draft

Seto is 24...not entirely a win now...and hes at 3 mil for next 3...if he gets 30, were good (IF)

We're going to have to start moving forwards for defense though.

Koivu
Bouchard
Havlat
Latendresse
Setoguchi
Clutterbuck
Gillies
Almond
McMillan
Granlund
Zucker
Haula
Larsson
Bulmer
Coyle

Only nine of those guys can play in the top three lines.

I said it with the Kobasew trade and I'll say it here. A future 2nd is like a current 3rd. #71 this year or #31-60() the next year? You may get a lesser player, but he's a year further developed than the better prospect.

After thinking for 30 minutes and drinking 3 beers, I have concluded that I am OK with this.

P.S. as of now, Barker is in our top 4. He's still on the team, right?

P.P.S. Kaberle anyone?

It's win now because they traded a fan favorite defenseman for a goal scoring forward, and now we don't have any defensemen.

Depends how you arrange it. Me, I like Scandella alot, so;
Scandella - Schultz
Zanon - Zidlicky
Stoner - Spurgeon
Barker/Falk/Prosser

No true #1 pairing, no "all situation's d-man other than perhaps Zidlicky, so you can't hide one as none would be overworked.

Man we really need a UFA......

I'm not entirely mad about this. Seto is definitely a top six player. we needed one of those. Needed another pick. the more i watch, the more i believe Fletcher has a few more years of rope left to hang himself. this smells of a lot of future planning.
