Coyle is more of a playmaker/ two-way forward, so i wouldnt worry too much about his low goal-totals.

Not that I disagree, in principle. It's just not a perfect plan.

And while I also agree with the bolded portion, the recent deep playoff teams have proven that you at least need SOMEONE on the back end to be offensive. We've now basically got Zid and *crickets*.
I agree with ya.

Setoguchi is a good player, but 35-40 goals, come on. I'm guessing 25-30 playing with Koivu. He's a better Antti Miettinen.

Charlie Coyle, I don't know much about. Everyone says he's a stud, looks like he scored 7 goals in 37 games last year for Boston U. Meh.

Late 1st could be good. I'd like to see if we can get Puempel or Grimaldi with that pick. Lots of skill, players underrated due to size/injury.
Obviously Burns either wanted way too much money or didn't want to re-sign, and good for Fletcher to get something for him. But getting Setoguchi is a "win now" move, and we have complete **** for defense right now. Schultz is a good defenseman, not a guy you play against the other team's top line though. Zidlicky is a PP specialist. Zanon sucks. Barker sucks. Stoner and Spurgeon are good rookies that you don't want on the ice against the other team's top six. Scandella's probably not ready for a big role. Is Brodin supposed to step in and play on our top pairing?

Otherwise we're going to have to make a trade or sign at least two quality defensemen, and that's going to be expensive. So Fletcher sure as hell better know what he's doing otherwise the fans are going to REALLY vote with their dollars this year.
but didn't Brodziak have the better year? Cullen is the placeholder for Granlund. When he comes up, Brodziak moves to the 3rd line again.

Pitkanen wouldn't be too bad of choice. What about Kaberle or Wiesnewski?

I hope we go after Boone Jenner. Everything I've read about him has been great. I'm not really impressed with puemple or Grimaldi, but really I haven't seen any of these guys, just reading.

I feel relatively confident in saying that Charlie Coyle will be a top 6 center (or RW, which I believe he prefers) at the NHL level. He is probably at least two years out, and as many as four (definitely want to be slow with big guys). He has good size, frame, and skating (not great), and plays both ways. I am not sure if he has first line offense, but he should definitely be a quality 1-2 combo with Koivu, or could be a good size compliment to Granlund's skill. His offensive arsenal is varied, but he lacks a single top end asset (shot, puck protection, playmaking are good, but none are elite). He could eclipse Setoguchi as far as offensive contributions, and will certainly bring more on the other side of the puck.

Setoguchi has received plenty of time with good players in recent years, so simply getting top line time with Koivu and playing a role on the first unit shouldn't increase his point totals. Knowing that he doesn't have to worry about Heatley, Pavelski, and Couture taking his top line spot however, likely will. In turn, that should help his greatest weakness, consistency. For those a little less familiar with him, Setoguchi has exceptional speed and an elite shot arsenal. He also brings plenty of dangle and physicality, but both are inconsistent. Defensive play has grown, but I'd be shocked if he ends up penalty killing during his contract. Some believe hockey sense needs serious improvement. Should be a 55-75 point player in each of the next three years.

I want Grimaldi just so I can get extra joy out of watching him torch the Gophers.

Besides, I think he's the most talented player in the draft. At a certain point, throw caution to the wind about size and role with it. The kid is going to rack up points before he turns pro so his value can only go up from here in my opinion.

you guys picked up great pieces, im going to miss seto a ton. coyle was a weird pick last year, many of us were like wtf, but he's been awesome this past year in college, so he's def going to be a 2nd line center one day IMO. unfortuntely for us, he would have gotten good right when our inevitable rebuild begins (after 2013/14).

that said, i don't know too much about burns sides the fact he really broke out early this season and is a good pmd. what are his strengths? weaknesses? can he pk well? can he play against top qualcomp? does he have a good shot or he mostly a pass first dman?

I look at Coyle much the same long-term as if we got Strome or Zibenajed at #10. #2C if Granlund plays wing with Koivu, or #2RW if Granlund's our #2C. Really liked how he played at the WJCs. Really liked him in last years draft(wanted us to try to move up with our 2 2nds to snag him).

It's gonna be in vain after Haula drops a couple hatties on The Fighting [shall not be named].

you don't know Burns?! He's a risk taking physical shoot first D with great size and great attitude. He's a man-child. Seriously great guy on and off the ice. Dislikes Perry. Prefers wrister. likes carrying the puck deep himself.
pair him with someone responsible.

Seto is a quality person. He's streaky but he scores the most beautiful goals.

So long... Gooooooooooooooch.

He'll fit right in!

From a Sharks fan: enjoy two phenomenal players in Seto and Coyle. Setoguchi is a future 35 goal scorer and first line winger. He brings speed and is not afraid to use his body. He's going to help your team in many ways. It'll be easier to cheer for you guys on our off nights to see our former players' success.

Good luck!

Oh no! Depth at our weakest position for the last forever!

THE HORROR!

We're going to do what every other team with depth does. Run 3 scoring lines or move one of them to the wing. Think two days ago Philly and what they did with Briere and Carter.

Need a winger? move one. Need a center? move one.

Well Philly had no problem fitting 4 top-2 centers on their team this past season. And Schenn/Couturier can both play center as well. Its not a concern.

I dunno. With the cap at 64 and change, I can see us dipping into the UFA market to help out here. It wont' be all bad, but I certainly don't expect a lot of contribution past perhaps a healthy zidlicky from the d-line. who knows, pitkanen?

Like I said earlier, Burns got traded because GMCF didn't want to give the salary Burns wanted.

Maybe GMCF has some projects during FA's period.
