Sharks get Brent Burns

From Bob MacKenzie's Twitter:

Blockbuster: SJS trades Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and 1st pick (No. 28) to MIN for Brent Burns and a 2nd rd pick.

Glad Divin' is gone from the Sharks. He's a Wing killer in the playoffs. Haven't really followed Burns too closely but he's another big D out of contention for Detroit.

TSN says it's basically 3 first rounders for Burns.

From LeBruns twitter:

Via text message, Sharks GM Doug Wilson said he did NOT know he'd be moving Setoguchi when he signed him yesterday.

I ****ing hate the sharks. Burns would have been near perfect here. Right handed shot, would have replaced raffy, plus we need size on our team. Sharks just got bigger too and better defensively which is what they had a weakness in....****

This would be like moving Flip, a first and Ferrado for Burns and a second.
I think this could be a huge trade for SJ.

San Jose has the young talent to pull a trade like that off

But still...Setoguchi?

Sucks to be a Wild fan

Coyle is the Sharks top prospect. The Wings probably would have had to part with Smith or whoever the Wild deemed was the Wings best forward prospect (Tatar, Pulk, etc.) to have a shot at Burns. Ferraro is not a good comparison, and if they wanted a young forward prospect that bad, I'm not sure if the Wings had anyone who could match Coyle.

Damn... Burns would have looked good in a Wings Jersey..
I agree with Captain Bob.. our 1st, Flip and Ferraro (or another prospect) would have been equal to what SJ gave up..

Holland is a wallflower

Sorry but this rant I must get off my chest.

Not trading for Burns is absolute treason.

how, we could not have matched if not beat SJ's offer is beyond incomprehensible.

So, all those dreamers who had hoped we would simply sign suter or bruns next summer do you see why that was nothing more then a pipe dream?

sat on his hands twittling his thumbs so he could what? get his hands on joni pitkanen? then he trades away our 1st rounder to boot and moves down and not up?

i just cant accept not being proactive its sickening

He hasn't been very good post lockout, his glorydays were pre-lockout no doubt about that.

I started a thread in the trade section that was Fil + Smith + 1st/2nd could of been 2nd/3rd can't remember. All I recall was Edge of Sanity said it was the worst offer ever and every poster said the value wasn't there and no way the Wild trade Burns.

See the bright side, if he's as bad a GM as some here think, we'll soon have much higher draft picks to play with.

what would we trade for burns exactly? setoguchi is a proven goalscorer at nhl level and we very possibly couldn't match that. hudler is a worse player, and filppula is a very different player from setoguchi. i mean sure, we could give up our 1st and a high-end prospect, but i don't see what equivalent we could give where san jose gave setoguchi.

would have been nice to get burns, but we didn't and i'm not going to blame holland for that.

What other's said. SJ gave up 3 1st rounders for Burns. No way he's worth that plus he's injury prone and UFA next off-season.

haha no he is an idiot who just like's to hear himself talk.

this summer was the best chance in a decade we have had to set our team up for the next half dozen years with availabel cap space and more importantly NEED

i dont get why we arent proactive, identify needs and aggresively address them.

right, except 75% of wings posters on hf boards repetedly expressed their dreams of adding burns or suter next summer via ufa to fill all our holes/gaps and that is not going to happen.

reality will set in

yup your point is noticed but we had rafalski and lidstrom in that picture.

they have to be replaced to maintain that level of hockey

too many people just think those kinds of players will fall into our lap
