Trade rights to Wiz ?

Presuming the Habs can find a dance partner, why not trade the rights to Wiz? With Markov signing, it seems to me that Gauthier must know what he is going to do at this point. I'm guessing that there is no deal in sight.

Maybe the Habs could shake free a 2nd this year or next.

If we could get like a 3rd for him... just imagine.. the trade would have been

Wiz+3rd for 2nd

It's like they would have given him to us almost.

Best rental ever.

Imagine if we could snag a 2nd and draft Jenner or Grimaldi!

didn't we pay a 2nd to get Wiz in the first place? any team would be stupid to pay the same price (an early 2nd is probably what we would need to draft one of the 2 players you mentionned) it cost to get Wiz at mid-season now that he is a UFA... I think we could get a 3rd at best but hoping to snag a 2nd in exchange for wiz and a 4th...

Would love it if PG can get a 2nd for this. Am more and more persuaded that it doesn't really matter who has a weeks worth of rights to send offers to Wiznewski, he's going to wait for free agency and select the best offer.

We'd probably use him and our 3rd to move up into the 2nd.

That's what I'm thinking. Montreal may have already made the deal where if the player they want is there then they make the trade of Wiz and a third rounder. If not then they may still trade his rights but for a later round pick. We'll see when the draft starts up again.

This is probably a more realistic idea and worth it imo. Detroit would really have to be horny and PG would need an offer from someone else in the 2nd round for Detroit to give up their 2nd pick, they really love picks in Detroit.

Nothing is impossible, but we all hear through the grape vine that Detroit wants this guy, so I doubt we'll get a discount. He's from the USA, so we can never fault the guy if he signs south. Hopefully the local girls made him smile & did their job & we do get him. what a Cannon this guy has!

The other way to look at that, is that his play since coming to Montreal may have proven that he was worth more than a 2nd then, so a 2nd could be entirely reasonable for a team that might see him sliding into a #2 defense position. I'm sure teams have paid more to complete their top pairing in the past. There just aren't that many RHS defensemen out there right now who are capable of what the Wiz brings every night. Sure, we have the luxury of PK Subban, but with our cap space, I don't see any reason to unload some of our embarrassment of RH riches onto the rest of the league just yet.

Trading his rights for anything is a no-brainer. All it takes is a willing dance partner.

I can't remember the last time this happened with an UFA. Or even if it has...

Really! A third round draft pick for 3 month employment is too dearly paid!!
His stats alone accumulated with us should have landed us a second pick back...That would be fair....

Honestly, a second pick would be pure waiste unless we can resign him for at least 3 years or trade back for the same value in the same year...

Otherwise we simply waisted an opportunity to replenish our talent bank in my opinion ....

Eactly!
He is still young...I would resign him and trade SOMEBODY next february to at least recup that second and more if he produce like this year!

We could send Gomez to the infirmery and others to keep capafloat.....
Anything below this is a waiste. We would be the only team that gives second draft picks back to back year for nothing in return....not forgetting other picks and players given away....

We need to better manage our assets!

As much as I think Filatov would've been an excellent buy-low candidate I couldn't see him being a Jacques Martin type of player.
