I like Weber a lot, I wish we'd keep him. But if the goal is to get rid of Spacek too, and add someone real good via UFA then I'm fine with trading Weber I guess.
*************** just said "Just confirmed Habs are actively shopping 2 d-men and also possibly working on shipping Gomez out: Something brewing.
This guys good for rumors he doesnt mess around..
I'm pretty sure it's Spacek and Weber. I like Weber and hope he does stay though.
Never know though, maybe we are looking to make an upgrade on D. Spacek gives a team a #4-5 guy now and Weber is ready to play and has the potential upside to be a #4 guy. Who knows what they are up to, really.
I can't see him getting traded now unless we get a semi-adequate replacement.
If they do trade him, does it mean they'll go hard after B.Richards? What if they strike out on Richards? Arnott?
I just can't see Montreal starting the season with only Plekanec Eller and Desharnais at center, especially since Eller could miss the 1st two months.
But an opportunity to move that cap hit, you can't miss that. Tough decision imo.
You could sign pretty much anyone to fill in for him and produce what he did last year. Hell, a guy like Reinprecht would probably cost you a 5th or something and is good enough to replace Gomez.

Well, if we ignore last season where he wasn't good enough to stay in one of the most offensively-challenged teams in the league, then passed waivers without being claimed...
c mon guys, Gomez andd spacek are going nowhere. Gainey and Gauthier loves these two. Christ, Gainey gave spacek a 3 year deal fearing another team would entice more than us. Gomez is , horse**** and is untradeable. Think about it, if Gainey wasnt the GM , there is no way, not even Houle would have taken that piece of garbage on

The same was said about Campbell and he got traded yesterday. As did Ryan Smyth with his contract.
at least campbell had a great plus minus and does something well. Gomez does nothing well, actually sorry he does gain the blue line then curl and dumps the puck. He is awful. Biggest reason we cant win the cup is GOMEZ

I'm not saying I want Reinprecht. I'm just saying he was on pace for about what Gomez scored last year for a fraction of the price.
I don't want to trade Vebaire either but if we are getting rid of crap like Gomez we need to give the other team something good to make up for it. Unless we are dealing with Gainey.
Only reason I say it is he has value and we already have some D signed. Then if we aren't giving 2.5-3 mil to Gorges we may be giving 6mil to Wiz.....
And if dumping Gorges means dumping Gomez I think Gauthier considers it based on Gorges contract demands.
I really hope not I want Gorges back! But he has value and hence why I speculated.
I've been speculating the same for months.
Gorges, from my own mouth is: "Our most replacable trading chip".
His value is still riding sky high from his playoffs last year and he is maybe even a touch over rated in the hockey world right now. For me he's a solid #4 on a good team and an excellent #5 on a contending team.
I'm sure there is many team interested in him. I'm in the same boat as you though, it's not like I WANT him traded (I don't), but I could see why trading him in some scenerio's could make sense.
