He wins trophies for his game face.

He's the life of the party without even being there.

Police question him because he's interesting.

Other men want to be him.

He's the most interesting man in the world.

Actually, I would say CB has the most offensive upside from both this year and last year's draft.

I'm a WMU student originally from Nashville, so also a Preds fan. So this is pretty cool for me.

Anyway, the lowdown from watching Balisy all year is that he's got tons of offensive upside (as mentioned already), and sees the ice tremendously well, but the kicker is that he turned into a pretty fine two-way man and PKer as this year went on. He needs to add strength, but that's pretty universal among 18 year old players. Never will be a speed demon, either.

Here's a bit of footage (WMU vs. Ohio State). He's #16, got the primary assist on the second goal in the vid and finished the 2-on-1 for the third goal. There's also a bit at the end with him on the PK.

Actually, everything I've read says that his offensive game isn't a sure bet to translate, but his two way play makes up for it.

So a slightly smaller (once he fills out) Nick Spaling.

In case you missed it, Balisy's coach at WMU, Jeff Blashill, just got hired by the Red Wings as an assistant coach. A good deal of my optimism for Balisy's development came from the fact that Blashill is such an outstanding coach. Now that WMU will be on their third coach in three years (and who knows who they will hire on short notice now), with all that goes around that kind of situation, in my mind I would have to temper the expectations for Balisy.

Just a FYI for everybody.

meh.

hes a 7th round choice right?

Kid would be better off staying 4 years at WMU and getting a degree. Odds of him making a living playing pro hockey are pretty long.

(of course since he's our pick I would love to have to eat my words)

Martin Erat and Patric Hornqvist say Hai, sure they're not world beaters, but they're integral cogs to this offense

Watching this kid at camp I was not terribly impressed. If he makes it great but I just don't see it right now.

I know that, but Hornqvist and Erat were late rounders likely because they were euros and less was known about them. And I did say that the odds were against him, not that it was a certainty. And since I believe playing juniors you dont get a college education I think he'd be giving up a lot for a low likelihood return.

and tell patrick and martin hai, and let me know when you come up with multiple American college players drafted in the 7th who made it...
