I know what all the scouts are saying about Schremp and I know how cocky he is but I think we're hurtin' if the 18th best scorer in the OHL last year turns out to be the 4th best Oiler center next year. I have very high hopes for the guy but not this season.

I'm guessing fans in Boston were saying the same thing about Patrice Bergeron going into the season.. In any event, I do agree with your point and I definitely think we need to get a top 6 centerman. I'd prefer one of Allison or Nedved but there are a lot of options out there this off-season. As OGE mentioned, Demitra would be a dream acquisition but I'm guessing his price tag is a little high for us to handle..

Anyway I still think a lot more is made of playing centre vs wing than is actually there. We are not discussing going from rocket surgery to brain science. If you understand how hockey works you can adapt. Particularly at an early age and to me (if nobody else is available) now is the time to try it.
I, too, would like Hemsky to finally take a sizeable step forward in terms of his development. But screwing with his position probably isn't the best way for him to become acclimated and comfortable with the NHL. His comfort level still isn't there as a right winger - a position he's played the majority of his career. It would be best if we limit the amount of distractions and obstacles preventing his development at the NHL level. Let him learn the NHL game in a position he's done most of his hockey career.

If you wanted to go adjusting a players' position, I'd say it would be more beneficial to do it at a lower level such as the AHL or Juniors. The rigors of the NHL is hard enough as it is without adding to it.

It really blows me away how well Bergeron did last year, people are still talking about Parise and Pouliot when Patrice is actually the reigning "Mr P" from the class of 2003 and he came 20 pix later.

Demitra is the real deal but you're right, Stl is still trying to find room in their budget for him and I don't think that the Oilers' best efforts are even close the the Blues' 4th best.

I really think that Nedved is our best chance at signing a legit #1 but I think we have about a 40% chance at best.
