Realignment?

http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.ph...rumor_is_true/

Quote:
Per Yahoo Sportsí Nicholas J. Cotsonika, the NHL really does plan on drastically realigning its divisions and conferences:

NHL exec said to expect dramatic realignment in 2012-13. Four time-zone based divisions, two with eight teams, two with seven.
...
Board of governors to discuss realignment at December meeting.

Northeast: DET, CLB, PIT, TOR, OTT, MTL, BOS, BUF
Atlantic: NYR, NYI, NJ, PHI, WSH, TB, FLA, CAR

That's my guess. Not sure how I feel about it yet

Good.

Like it.

Now just get rid of the tie/loss point.

Get rid of divisions altogether.

Make it East vs West (15 teams each)

It would be a nightmare for scheduling purposes.

I'm guessing the west shapes up like this (even though Detroit SHOULD stay in the west it appears they and CLB are going east)

Central: CHI, WPG, STL, NAS, DAL, MIN, COL
Pacific: VAN, LAK, SJ, PHX, ANA, EDM, CGY

Detroit being in the East throws off the whole balance of the league. 16 teams in one Conference and 14 in another with 8 from both making the playoffs makes no sense, as well. This is a very flawed system, and unless they plan on contracting two teams (Phoenix and who?) I don't see this working.

Gotta have divisions imo. Makes the rivalries better. Not sure about the 8 team per though, would rather keep it divided more.

Nashville and maybe even Columbus belong in the East now with Winnipeg up there again.

Agreed completely.

Not so sure about that. Wasn't it already confirmed they're both coming back east?

28 teams works out better than 32. More teams is not what the NHL needs. And this system isn't going to work if they have 30 teams.

If they expand to 32 teams I could see an NFL-system with 8 divisions of 4. Maybe top 2 from each division make the playoffs? Or 4 "wild cards." 8+8=16 total playoff teams.

Dont think theyll have two less teams in the west.

They probably mean one division in both the east and west with 8 and one in each with 7.

All indications are that they're splitting it 16-14. 15-15 would be fine, although with uneven divisions per conference I'm interested to see how scheduling is going to work.

Would not want be in the division with southeastern teams, I don't want half our games to have no excitement behind them. Throw us in with MTL, BOS, TOR, PHI, PIT etc. Please keep us away from CAR, TB, FLA, NSH etc.

That all looks about right. But the divisions are going to be divided up by time zones, so therefore the only one that really looks out of place is Dallas (who would probably be better served in the Norris Division).

But looking over it I'm not sure how that would be done.

Like this because it keeps the rivalries as well.
Face it one division has to take a hit and The Adams is it, which looking at the teams involved don't have any real rivalries compared to all the other teams. really helps travel for all involved.

Its actually going to be Pacific, Midwest, East and South from the article/quote I read earlier this week. I dont mind it, aside from the stupid way in which 1 division will have 1 more team than the other in each conf (8 and 7). Also, I dont like the fact that the 1st round of the playoffs will be within 1st 4 of division and then reseed. I agree top 4 of each division but if the 2 seed in the south has less points than the 3 seed in the east, than it should be the overall 5 seed in the conference. Theres definitely things that have to be worked out, but bringing back the wales and cambell names for conferences are cool.

that 16-14 team thing is ridiculous. i like it the way it is switch a couple of the teams i really dont think we need anything this drastic. i like it the way it is. detroit coming to the east as some1 said will creat a major power shift. we really need to keep the rivalries. something better they have to come up with

I think this is all a gimmick to change things up.

Nothing else really and if that's the case then I think it's stupid.

They could be perfectly fine leaving the divisions as they are and just moving CBJ or NSH to the East. It really isn't that hard.

I think it's all a gimmick to draw more fans and news stories.

Its not.

Its for functional reasons.

Travel, scheduling, game times...

All of this to move Detroit to the East?
You could move them to northeast then Boston to Atlantic, and Pittsburg to east.
The south east just becomes the east.

I don't like 8 to 7 divisions. This is not the AHL.
Rather go with no divisions.
