*OFFICIAL* Oshawa Generals 2011-12 Season Thread

Alright, with the NHL draft concluded I figured I would get our season started. Here are a list of our returnees:

Forwards:
  1. Cody Payne
  2. Mark Petaccio
  3. JP Labardo
  4. Andy Andreoff (NHL drafted, and OA. So might not be back)
  5. Nicklas Jensen
  6. Scott Laughton
  7. Boone Jenner
  8. Scott Sabourin
  9. Christian Thomas
  10. Kyle Hope (F/D)
  11. Emerson Clark (heard he's considering focusing on lacrosse)
  12. Lucas Lessio

Prospects who can make a push:
Cole Cassels (1st rounder, and a lock)
Brad Latour (2011 4th rounder, probably longshot)
Brendan McKay (2010 7th)
Brian Hughes will probably get a 3rd crack at the roster

Also interesting if they can report:
Zack Stepan (11th in 2010, Shattuck kid)
Michael Turner (7th in 2011, USHL games played as underager)
John Urbanic (8th in 2011, USHL games played as underager)

We have 12 returning forwards, 11 if Andreoff doesn't return and all in all we look really deep up front and will score a lot of goals. Hopefully Payne and Petaccio can improve their game as 17 year olds.

Defence:

Scott Valentine (non signed OA by Anaheim)
Daniel Maggio (non signed OA by NYR)
Jimmy McDowell
Anton Zupancic (probably the OA on the way out)
Colin Suellentrop
Nick Quinn
Josh Brown (believe he's signed)
Mitch Eden (believe he's signed)

Prospects who can make a push:
Patrick McCarron (think hes NCAA bound)
Stephen Shears (longshot to report)
Rory McGuire
William Petschenig

We have 8 dmen including Zupancic who I think will be released. Our D will be decent, but Quinn I think is the guy who really needs to step up and provide some offense from the backend with losing De Haan

Goalies:

Kevin Bailie

Pushing for a spot:
Ken Appleby (I think he's going to be the backup)
Justin Tugwell
Bo Bessette (backed up a few games last season)

No real shocker here. Our weakness is goaltending. I really hope we address this with a import whos proven. We have not drafted a goalie in the priority selection or import draft who has been a viable #1 in years. I think Bailie is on a real short leash here and Appleby will be looking for minutes. In an ideal world I'd like to see a goalie come in and we move Bailie out of town, its been 3 years and he hasn't proven capable of being the number 1.

Season is only what, 2 months away! Congrats to Jensen, Jenner, Lessio, Suellentrop and most of all Andy Andreoff on being drafted. Andy has been mr everything for this team and has been the most improved player over the 4 years as a gen. Congrats to him and all his hard work.

Do you think there is the remote possibility of Toronto Maple Leafs getting Biggs to play here or that Biggs will choose to play here himself? What are the chances!

Sorry I did omit him by accident. I thought it was always a 50/50 shot with Biggs reporting. Now that the Leafs drafted him I feel theres almost no chance with Burkes ties to Miami-Ohio along with a pretty decent recruiting class.

Not just Burkes ties but the entire front office is heavy NCAA laden.
Dave Poulin
Ron Wilson
the two new asst. coaches from the NCAA.

I doubt they will ask him to move to the OHL but they wouldn't stop him either.

i am an la king fan, and i was hoping you could tell me a bit about Andreoff, and in inparticular, how is his skating? If his skating is bad/below average, or average, has it been improving?

thanks a lot guys,

alex

Andreoff is a good skater, no blazing speed but extremely strong on the puck (hard to knock off)is a excellent stick handler who can really dangle the puck in and out of traffic,he has some really nifty moves in and around the net can scrap with the best of them, and will not back down, the only down side of him is a few to many retaliation penalties especially in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season vs. Niagara kind of put his team in a hole a few to many times, but otherwise you've got a real character player a team guy who will step up in key situations.
Good luck a have a great season GO Gens GO

Hey guys,

A bit of a random question here.

I'm doing a story on junior hockey concussions.

Can anyone name a Gen who has had (or speculated to have had) a concussion at all in the recent years? It'd be great if they were still on the team, but I would take what I can get.

If a player is not there anymore, and left in recent years, it would still help me out.

Thanks guys!

The generals are giving Kevin Bailie the starting job until he loses it. He has been told he has 6-7 games to show the team he is up for the task. Hope he keeps it.

Good luck Kevin!

Thats very risky. Id still make a play for Mike Morrison or Scott Stajer, assuming Stajer is sent back down.

JP Anderson may be available later into the year.

Ya possibly eh, I know Kevin has been training hard this summer. He knows this is his most important year yet and he is prepared to do what he has to do to keep the number 1 job

Bailly is the most technical goalie out there, he is a great goaltender, all he needs is a little confidence, once he finds that he can be one of the best goaltenders in the OHL. I hope that the Gens really do give him a chance, he deserves it, he never *****es ,whines or complains a great team guy,put him in and leave him in.

Oshawa has signed a lot of players in the last few weeks.Who will be released, traded, waived ??? I can`t see them going with all the 16 year olds they signed if they are seriously going to make a deep run into the playoffs, even less if they are thinking Memorial Cup. Go gens Go

Just because they are signed does not mean they will be on the main roster.

You're probably finished your story by now. But in case you aren't, Matt Seegmiller. You can see the hit in youtube.

The german is doing ok he nearly got killed by Valentine in the scrimigages came across the blueline with his head down, it`s a good thing Valentine let up a bit or Sebastian could have been in serious trouble. He has good size and speed, good hands, will need a little time to adjust to the O and please don`t fight with your gloves on, as a Euro don`t fight, that`s not what the Gens brought you over for.

Good luck

Not quite sure if Altshuller is the savior just yet ?

looked average in the pre-season, and was not very good last night vs the Soo. The Gens tendy had only 14 shots after 2 periods and were down 3 - 1 not quite the goal save percentage the Generals were looking for.
thoughts????

pussafaction of the game

Mike Milbury was absolutly right last season when he said that there is a pussafacation of the game of hockey going on right now, Scott Sabourins 12 game suspension is a complete joke, Stokes can blow out Boone Jenners knee 2 minute minor penalty, Sabourin glides into Stokes hits the glass with his stick and gets a 5 minute major penalty, he never hit Stokes in the head, clearly seen in the video replay, Oh well Branch is trying to make a statement (we get it) but 12 games come on!!!!! Stokes got up and fought Sabourin right after the phantom hit to the head, I can see maybe 1 to 3 games but 12 games??? YOUR OUT TO LUNCH BRANCH.
