He won't win a Norris but he can be an excellent top-pairing defender and D-partner for a guy like Karlsson or Rundblad.

Lowest he ends up is a 4th or 5th d-man. I can't imagine him not playing in the NHL given his size, skating, and what he's shown so far.

EDIT: It's mostly going to have to do with his hands.

Highest Potential: Zdeno Chara

Lowest Potential: Matt Carkner

Will he win a Norris: Let me just look into my good ol' crystal ball here...

Highest Potential: Number 1 shutdown d-man
Lowest Potential: Number 4 d-man
Norris: If he reaches his highest potential he certainly has a shot

I'll save you some time.

Person #1: He could win a Norris if everything works out. Otherwise, he'll be a solid number 3.

Person #2: OMG typical Sens fan overrating a prospect! Cowen is a bottom pairing defenseman at best! Didn't you see the WJC?

These are the two opinions on Jared Cowen.

He's already much faster than Carkner and bigger.

Highest Potential: Shea Weber

Expected (by me): Brayden Coburn

Lowest Potential: Jeff Schultz

Norris: Anything's possible I guess.

High end - Solid top pairing, shutdown D who complements Karlsson
Low end - Solid mid pairing, shutdown D

Norris? Nope. He'll never be that good.

Highest potential: Brent Seabrook
Lowest potential: Ryan O'Bryne

He'll end up a 20-30P elite shutdown defender that we pair with Karlsson on the top pairing.

A bigger version of Chris Phillips. Mostly a shutdown role.

I'll say Robyn Regher is a realistic hope.

Wow someone seems to think pretty highly of him.

I am starting to wonder if it might be better to let Cowen round out his game in Bingo (offensively speaking) his defense is already NHL good... He has potential to be a pretty damn good two-way D-man, I just have a feeling he won't have the ability to work on his offensive game as much, if he is in Ottawa.

What exactly are you referring to? The Weber comparison? I honestly don't know why he is put on some kind of pedestal around here. He is a big physical defenceman that has a great shot. Weber probably will always have a better shot that Cowen, but otherwise I don't see how it's an out of reach possibility. Physicality can be taught to a certain extent (See, Brian Lee)

or is it the possible Norris nomination and some point in the future? I don't think that is ridiculous either, it's a shot in the dark, but so is saying he won't be nominated. Is there some rule that says that when presented a question that no one really has a clue as to the answer, that you have to be completely conservative?
