The Phantoms are going to be awesome this year

For the first time in a long time, the Phantoms will be made of more prospects with potential to be NHL'ers, than career minor leaguers.

Just look at some of the young guys we have to look forward to on the Phantoms this year:

FORWARD:
RJ Umberger
Stefan Ruzicka
Ben Eager
Eric Meloche (28, but still has NHL potential even at his age)
Brent Robinson
Tony Voce
Mathieu Brunelle
Gratton/Grant/Smith as possible tough guy/s

DEFENSE:
Rosario Ruggeri
Randy Jones
Freddy Meyer

Defense is a little thin, and I am assuming Neil Little will be the goalie.
However, we are stacked with good young forwards, and 3 of them look like blue chippers.

With an NHL season unlikely, or at least a full one, the Phantoms should provide some legit excitement this season with all of the young kids.

I know for sure I'll make every Phantoms game in Hershey, and might even go down to Philly for a game or two.

Thoughts??

I agree that it will be a fun year.

Don't forget if Carter and Richards are allowed to play on the Phantoms (assuming not with the FLyers) and Wood on D.

The goal should be fun too - whoever that is - my thought is Nitty for the VAST majority of games. Lets not debate that part on this thread though.

I forget which of the vets are coming back.

I'm looking forward to see what Wood can do, other than Ruggeri, he seems to be the only physical defenseman we have that is close to NHL ready (2-3 years)

The defense will look very offense-oriented:

Slaney (maybe)
Seidenberg (no NHL)
Wood (looks very good in camp)
Meyer
Jones
Ruggeri (TBD)

wood put up some pretty nice numbers in college and also don't forget Picard who has done well in the Q, will he play another year there or come to the Phantoms?

Meloche will do nothing for the Flyers. He was so-so during a few callups with the Pens, but did nothing to show full-time potential. The Flyers have good depth so he will be a minor-leauger.

Not necessarily. If he can play in the AHL he may be eligible because he is european.

I know people in the Owen Sound area are expecting him back. As is management, although I'm not sure if this is just a hope or if it has been relayed to the organization by the Flyers. I'd love to see him play in the Sound a few more times, but in terms of bettering him as a hockey player, the Phantoms would be best. Maybe one last chance for autographs and such.

I've heard different about Ruzicka. You just might be disappointed OSO.

What makes me fairly sure he will stay is that the Attack traded their 2nd pick in the Import Draft. If they were the slightest bit unsure about Stefan's return, the obvious move is to choose another European, as OHL teams are allowed a maximum of two. I don't see our GM trading that pick if he was not certain of Stefan's return.

i would hope, if he's willing, that the Flyers would sign him and get him in a phantoms jersey so that he could potentially make the big club if and when a season were to happen... it isn't as if we are deep at wing right now.

Ruzicka may be figuring that if there isn't going to be a season, he might as well just play it out in the OHL, then make the jump next time around... probably not smart career move in terms of improving quickly... but i would think it's a bit more fun to play with kids your own age rather than the AHL vets and whatnot.
