Did Oleksiak get in a fight or get a game misconduct or what?

And more importantly, he gets more confidence lately. Nowadays he gets the most ice-time of the season, 24mins last game, now over 28mins (OT), most of his team.

Nice to see Chiasson keeping a good pace.

Jere, do you think Joki spends another year in Finland or is he possibly a candidate to make the move to North America next year?

That's very difficult to predict IMO. Personally I'd like to see him in NA, get used to smaller rink size and learn NA style of defensive game. He will have about two complete seasons under his belt in summer so I'd like to see him move on and learn a new environment, closer to Stars coaches. On the other hand it is expected that he will receive much more responsibility next season with a top-pairing role that would help his development. His team sucks and is the worst of the league with lots of younger players, so a leadership role would benefit him a lot. Right now I'd say he'll stay for another year, but you never know. I also don't want to neglect the possibility that we'll never see him in the big league.

I think Jokipakka is more likely than Klingberg to come over to NA next year. And I do think he will. It's sort of counter-intuitive, but remember that Jokipakka is a year older than Klingberg despite being drafted a year later.

There's going to be major change in the D corps next year in Cedar Park. The balance should finally tilt toward our own prospects, despite Larsen graduating. You'll have Dillon, Labrie, and Nemeth for sure, then likely Oleksiak, perhaps Jokipakka and a re-signed Jordie Benn.

I didn't realize Jokipakka's Finnish team was so bad. I guess whether or not he comes over may depend more on the Austin D-corps and how he would fit into it than anything specific to him as a player.

Regarding his chances of ever making the big club...Rightly or wrongly I view him a little differently than other prospects. He was an over-ager when drafted with experience in a men's league. He's almost more of an "organizational" player than a pure "prospect" if that makes any sense. I think he's a guy who they felt like they had a pretty good read on what he is and how much further he could go. Given his age and everything I don't really think they're going to handle him with kid gloves as much as a guy like Klingberg because I don't think they feel like there's just a ton of potential to ruin, so to speak.

The AHL has some highlights up from their Skills Competition in their free highlight section. Skip to about 3:55 to see Fraser rip 4 out of 5 shots past the goalie high blocker in the Rapid Fire event.

.57 is a pretty decent goal clip even for a 19 year old in juniors. Is Stranksky becoming a legit top six prospect?

He's 18.

edit: Or is that what you're saying? I can't tell.

Anyway... not sure what you mean by legit top 6 prospect, but Stransky has always been a top 6 prospect. The Stars abandoned their philosophy of taking the "safe" pick in the later rounds a while ago. Gone are the character grinders who one day hope to fill out the lower lines at best. Stransky, Molin, Guptill, R. Smith, Vincour... these guys were all drafted as top 6 prospects, for better or for worse. Even McKenzie was thought to have that kind of potential at the time.

Was Benn like that? He's almost certainly a major reason in them doing this.

Benn seemed to start a trend of drafting players in the lesser known or less popular Canadian leagues outside of the WHL and OHL.

The BCHL and OJPHL are feeder leagues to the NCAA since those players don't lose NCAA eligibility. Benn was actually on his way to the U of Alaska before changing his mind and going to the WHL. Reilly Smith and Alex Guptill are both out of the OJPHL and McKenzie was a BCHL alum like Benn.

Austin Smith played in the BCHL, but IIRC he was actually drafted out of a prep school.

My bad, I figured that Stransky was 19 because I assumed he was 18 when he was drafted. I knew he had injury problems which kept his draft slot probably below where his talent lies but lots of guys have talent and never realize it. The point I was trying to make is that his goals/game percentage is really good for a guy after his draft year. I am thrilled that he's living up to his potential and look forward to seeing how he does in a couple of years. Too bad the Czech junior coaches won't allow him to compete for his country because he did what was best for his own career.

The Czech WJC team had 10 players who play in the CHL, if that's the implication. I have no idea why Stransky wasn't considered for the team.

He actually came extremely close to getting a hat-trick last night with an empty-netter. An assist was later added to his total giving him a 3 point night. He continues to lead Saskatoon in scoring.

whaaaat? In response to someone being surprised Stransky didnt make the WJC in post 424 of this very thread you said.

"You are? The Czechs hold grudges against anyone who wants to come over here and better themselves. It's a sign of insecurity in their own development. Can you imagine Sweden blacklisting Landeskog or Rakell for example?"

The issue is not playing in the CHL. If you remeber, Roman played in the CHL and the WJC. The issue is with having a contract back home with a Czech team.

Stransky won't sign ... thank goodness ... who'd want another terrible situation like what happened with Roman being forced back to the Czech Republic for a while.

Unless the Czech's loosen up, the only way Stransky makes the team next season is if he signs a contract with a Czech team.

That was per several Czech posters in the WJC threads.
