I would be surprised if it's 5.7. Still gonna guess 6 to 6.5; which is still damn good, but I just think 5.7 is too good.

I don't know if we'll see Doughty signed before Smyth is traded. Hopefully both happen in the next day or two, so Lombardi knows what his cap is going into FA Day.

Also the OP link was changed. It says that the deal of 5 years, 5.7 is ON THE TABLE, not that Doughty signed it.

Expect it to be 6 to 6.5 and 5 years. Hopefully, 6, but it's Doughty and he knows his worth and probably sees people thinking Stamkos will get 8, so yeah.

I'm still hoping he gets offersheeted by the Canucks. But I doubt. We've pissed enough people off

While it is true that he may be a UFA at the end of the deal, that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll choose to play elsewhere. As of right now, he loves LA, the team has a great future, and he will get paid fairly. Win-win-win from my point of view. There are a lot of UFA's that resign with their team.

I think Doughty might push for 5.7M for 4 years if he wants something different. Then he doesn't give up any UFA time, but has a nice cap hit to build a real contender.

If he signs it, this will be a great bargain at the end of the deal.

I'm thinking there are atleast 10 teams that would offer Drew Doughty more than 5.7 million on a long term contract.

Doughty at a 5.7m cap hit would be phenomenal for the Kings and 5yrs is more than good. He would be 26-27yrs old when its done, it's insane how young he is still, by that age he would still get an increase in pay.

5.7 would be a great deal but you'd have to think Doughty will wait until he gets offers from other teams before he signs it. That's compensation of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd - SOMEONE will throw him an offer up to 6.2 for that price, he's too good. Even if he wants to stay with the Kings you know they'll match that and he'll get the extra cash.

Good for the pocketbook, but not good for a players reputation.

Doing this would handcuff the Kings a bit, so if he wants to stay in LA and play for a winner, he is best served to sign before July 1 for whatever value. Nothing wrong with a counter offer if he and his agent thinks the deal not fair, of course.

5 years is nice, how many of the 8-10 year contracts stay on the one team. Re Richards, Carter

That's a bit low isn't it? I'd expect at least $6 million per if not $6.5 million per.

Any team with a GM that has a brain and wasn't trying to get a hometown discount would offer more. Can't fault Lombard for trying to keep the cap # low, but that's almost insulting especially after seeing the cap go up as much as it has.

Decent? Not bad?

That'd be a he'll of a steal by the Kings.

since the saturday night beer rumors are schenn is asking for 5 mill per year in toronto....hell burke could go 6 million for doughty and have his wheelhorse for 5 years .i think this year lots RFA might get offers sheets.as long as your smart enough to have some money coming off the books every year ....u can do some damage.

Seems pretty low, I'm expecting a 4 year 25 million deal.

If Doughty's agent is smart he will tell him to wait until July. Someone out there is going to come in with 75+ million over 10 years.

Probably that low because Kings want to stock up and win a cup with in that time frame, I could see him making a couple mill more on the next contract if this one is signed. Also at 5.7 I think every team in the league would be dumb not to throw an offer sheet..

If it happens it lowers the value of defensemen all over the league. = good.
