I hope its before camp, to be honest. Just name Cally, and let him get into the role.
It should be Cally.

Might be Richards though.

End of training camp sounds about right, or maybe a small chance right before training camp if Torts wants that captain and the new assistant captain to start their leadership roles right at camp.

It won't be Richards. Small chance he would even get the A.

C - Cally
A - Staal
A - Dubinsky

Contender, yes; serious might be a little strong. This team is a lot closer than many people think, though.

I think it's definitely between Callahan and Dubinsky, but it won't be announced for awhile (definitely not before they are re-signed)

Dubinsky seems like the more vocal guy in general but Callahan screams captain material

Why? Not like he'll score the game winner against us in the ECF playing for NYI.

But i hope its one of Cally, Dubi, Staal.

I don't see Dubinsky as captain. I think it's between Callahan and Staal, with Callahan probably winning out (assuming he signs long term).

If Drury were a classy guy, he would have simply retired and put an end to this whole mess. No Buy Out. No Cap Hit at all. Nice clean break from his NHL career.

He could have taken a nice little vacation, take some time with his family...relax for a while

Then, he could have easily gotten himself a nice little job with the Rangers, when ever he was ready to return to working.

But no, he has to mooch out that last slither of cash and let the money continue to be a Cap Hit, for another season. Jerk.

Thats what im hoping for. Just to get them into the role, start representing the team in that way. Welcome the new guys.

Let them have a chance to settle into the role so it isnt culture shock at the start of the season.

naming richards captain would be pretty weak, not to mention a slap in cally or dubi's face if you ask me

I don't think they'd give an incoming UFA signing the captaincy. It kind of spits in the face of all the guys who have grown together and formed the core of this team.

Plus Richards wasn't even the captain in Dallas.

A deafening weight has been lifted.

Thanks for the ... er... memories (?) Chris.

All joking aside, thanks for the effort, the glory in Manhattan was just not meant to be for you. In the end you will be remembered for handcuffing this franchise for several seasons, even though you really shouldn't be blamed for signing a lucrative contract that anyone in their right mind would have signed as well.

Good luck. But i'll never forgive you for killing the Rangers with 7.7 seconds left in Buffalo, and then never returning the favor for the Blueshirts.

(This didnt ruin my weekend, in fact - it made it a little sweeter)

Oh yea, definitely wont be. Not like Torts and Richards have a relationship or anything...and the Rangers have a long history of giving this captaincy to homegrown players.

Am I the only one still waiting on the official press release? Our UFA contract nightmares have been too bad for too long for me to rejoice until I see a press release confirming the buyout from the Rangers, the league office or, preferably, both.

Crisis minimized, but still present. Not averted. His contract still has it's fangs firmly attached to this team's Cap. Still mooching blood from the Cap, like a parasite.

Drury's e-mail fills that void for me. He's admitting he's gone in some manner or fashion.

This. Our cap is better today than it was yesterday, but we've still got his contract attached to us like weights to our ankles.

such typical childish, populist BS.

of course, if he was "classy" he would take career and life advice from you and do everything to make sure the Rangers (a hockey team that he played with for a few years) are in a good position, no need to worry about himself and his family for the rest of his life.

Love Drury and the way he plays but this had to be done. Good luck to Chris. Its sad to see a player like him to start breaking down but that is what happens.

In any case, hes about to be gone for good.

which means the repeating arguments of the past 3 years can be left to die now.

To be clear, it is still very possible that Richards signs somewhere other than NY

Horrible tenure as a Ranger, but a good player and a great guy.
