Yeah, I have a sneaking suspicion that Sather is trying to work out a trade. A team like Florida...is still 19 million under the cap floor. If we were to grab some draft picks out of the deal, that would be a nice trade-off as well as completely wiping Drury's contract off our books.

great. i just hope Chris' knee recovers. it's always a terrible thing to see a player have to retire due to injury and not on their own terms. I'm sure Drury was a big part/influence on Callahan, both in his PK ability and his professionalism. Let's get Cally the C now!

Would definitely be a preferable result, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Wolski could still get bought out in the 2nd buyout period (which I'm sure we'll trigger).

+1.

The next time some one offers me $35 million, I'm taking it.

So would any of you.

There's no doubting it. You can see it in Callahan's demeanor and approach to the game. There's a lot of Chris Drury in the way Callahan plays, particularly away from the puck.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Chris Drury is a great guy, a great teammate, and I'm sure he's a great husband/father, but sometimes you just have to do what is best for the team moving forward. What Drury said regarding the buy-out about the franchise and the fans, I will always remember that with Drury.

He exited on a sad note, but did what was best for this organization and I can't thank him enough for that. It's sad to see such a great career come to an end the way it has, but thanks Chris Drury, everything you did was appreciated and we respected you.

Good luck to you, whether you continue in Buffalo or retire. Kudos to you Chris Drury. You're a great person and will always be one.

There are some similarities and some dissimilarities between Callahan and Drury. Callahan is a lot more aggressive forechecker for instance. Also a faster skater. Drury in his day was a better finisher. Ryan may have learned some ins and outs from Drury but I think Ryan's personality is going to be a little more outgoing.

The only albatross contract remaining is Redden's and it is easily buried in the AHL.

Glen, start using your brain!

I totally respect Drury for how he handled this. He clearly understands the situation the Rangers are in, and there is no bad blood at all.

Ugh...I'd much rather 8 years @ 6 mil cap hit. The extra years are easier to deal with as he may not play them anyway.

Good, now will Torts take questions and announce Ryan Callahan being named El Capitano?

they won't announce Callahan as captain until they re-sign him (if he does indeed end up being captain).

Even then, probably not until after training camp

And now, NOW, we can finally cue the dancing bananas:

Drury always seemed like a class act, but it's past time for him to go. Disappointed that it worked out as it did, but glad to see him leave in a professional manner.

Now, don't go blowing the cap room on something stupid like a 5 year $30MM contract for Kaberle, Slats.
