Sounds like somebody talked some sense into Drury. If he goes the rout of "my knee is permanently broke from playing hockey" his player career is over. No team would ever deal with him
If he takes the buyout it at least leaves it open to rehap and come back at least as an experienced vet role player for cheap a-la Prospal.

Neal with Richards in Dallas this year:
59 games: 21g, 18a, 39p (that's .356 gpg for a 29g pace over a complete season, and .661 ppg for a 54p pace over a complete season).

Neal without Richards once traded to Pittsburgh later in the season:
20 games: 1g, 5a, 6p (that's .05 gpg for a 4g pace over a complete season, and .3ppg ppg for a 25p pace over a complete season).

Essentially after the trade, Neal's goals per game dropped from .356 to .05.
Nice stats, but way too small a sample size to be significant.

James Neal scored 24 goals a few years ago with Mike Modano as his center. Does this mean that Mike Modano would make our wingers better also?

With our center situation, he probably would..

Modana of a few years ago would ABSOLUTELY make our wingers better. I really can't believe all the hate Modano gets, because (a) he was dynamite before the lockout, (b) he was still really good right after the lockout, and (c) he did an excellent job with Emilio Estevez in the Mighty Ducks.

Modano put up a 77 point season coming out of the lockout, and followed that up with a 43 points in 59 games (60 point pace) and 57 point seasons. This isn't a guy who has sucked for the last decade, he was still a great player after the lockout -- it has been the last 2 seasons where his fall has been especially precipitous.

Eriksson has some hands and he can finish. He'll be fine without Brad, not saying he will be just as good, but he'll be fine.

REALLY?

Loui Eriksson had his best season wheb Richards was hurt in 08-09. He is perfectly capable of producibg without Richards.

sometimes its hard to believe what is true

It may of been as simple as hey Dru sorry but its a business and we have to buy you out for our best interest............ok do what you have to do ...........instead we bash Drury and freak out about the situation on these boards, lol

His agent found the team that could be interested. Knee immediately improved after that.

Not really...Modano of a few years ago had 46 points in 80 games. Neal still put up 24 goals that season.

All I'm saying is that unless you think Neal is a 4G scorer, then I fail to understand what it proves to put much emphasis on his splits from last year. He obviously struggled in Pitt. You can blame part of that on missing Richards, but I simply don't believe that his 21 goals in 59 games can be basically entirely attributed to playing with Richards.

yea it does but honestly I dont think we should get another big name FA and over spend. Richards at 6.5 and guessing the RFAs gives the below.

im not convinced that team is going to be a cup contender. to me thats a 2nd round team. we need 1 more bigtime offensive player..unless, of course, you feel that one of Dubi, Cally, AA, or Stepan will turn the corner and become a 35/35/70 type guy next season.

Sather said at the draft that he hadn't spoken to Drury in awhile... Wonder what changed all of a sudden...

There's always the deadline too. Maybe package a couple of d prospects for some scoring help.

I think they get rid of EC to create more wiggle room. That little extra space could allow for a signing such as Jussi Jokinen, Jagr, or Gagne.

Wow, can't believe all the Eriksson hate. I would do anything to have him on our team. Guy is a stud and would instantly become our best and most reliable player.
