Probably would've included Hagman/Stajan.

Good job Tambo! You called those bluffs that LA leaked to the media. Fraser and a 7th is a good deal.

Lol, so many dumb people man, wow. Lombardi's hands were tied, no matter who we got back from Edmonton, they were going to be bought out. Brule had injury concerns, therefore you can't buyout an injured player. Why risk that? So Lombardi asked for someone else, Colin Fraser it was. He'll be bought out anyways and we now have 16M to work with. Doughty will get his raise and then we can spend July 1st.

Richards' new LWer? How about his old teammate Simon Gagné? He'll be a UFA next week

LA got alot of cap space to actually add something significant Jul 1st

Oilers pay little...........get a character guy for the young guys

and maybe just maybe they(final year) they trade him at the deadline for a 1st???? he would have to waive that but.....

+1

people calling this a 'fleece job' are out to lunch. Its a win win win for both clubs and Smyth. Could not have been a happier end to this mess.

I would not expect to see Smyth traded at the deadline next year.

makes sense they go after Gagne . Nice call

is it for sure Fraser will be bought out? Its a cheap deal so he could be a 4th liner no?

$16.6M (including Fraser buyout)

But take into account

Doughty - Rumored $5.75M
A-Mart, Richardson, Lewis - $3-$4M

And we're left with $6-$7M.

If they buy out Fraser for 275K a year then they save around 6M.

They have 16M right now. If Doughty signs for 6 that leaves them 10. Moeller is gone to Sweden already and Richardson isnt going to get a significant raise

there really arent too many LW UFAs who would command 4M+ contracts.

The cap space is more valuable than anything in this deal. Giving away Ryan for free would still be a good deal for the Kings. The Oilers paid a little bit for appearance sake and for sentimental reasons, Smyth isn't worth his cap hit, but we have a rich owner and obviously weren't going to spend anywhere close to the cap during our rebuild, so it's of little consequence to us. I think getting Smyth back will be a good morale boost for the team and should help some of the young guys.

Well, I think I can speak for both Kings and Oilers fans when I say, THANK GOD!!!!

What an ordeal over a late round pick....anyways, I guess I'm glad it was a 7th round pick and not a 4th/5th in 2012, as that draft should be pretty deep it seems.

Also, I am glad we got rid of our 4th line centre contract as well, should give a few young guys an opportunity to win a job.

Win-win for both sides IMO. Sure, it might not be great value for 20 goals and 50 points, but LA was doing a favor to a great guy who needed a trade for family reasons and they still start July 1 with an added 6M in cap space, so they should be active in the UFA market.

Fraser will most likely be bought out because Kings have better players to play on the bottom 6 I believe.

Both teams win this trade.

I'm sure he was told to keep the salaries below a certain level until the team is ready to contend.

Most of us are thinking $6M-$7M after Doughty and our remaining RFAs get re-signed.

Doughty is rumored to have already inked a deal.

VERY happy the Oilers were able to do this trade without giving up on Brule.

Good deal all around.
