But it wasn't like the scouting staff was unaware of that when they used the 10TH OVERALL PICK IN A DEEP DRAFT on him.
Get a life man,you have the right of your opinion, but we also have our opinion

I don't see what's so bad about the Kostitsyn pick personally. He has the potential to be a Marian Hossa type player with his skill and with the depth we have at forward I think it's a good idea to take a player with that potential. The downside to him is that if he doesn't turn out to be a top 2 line player he likely won't play in the NHL but it is definitely worth the risk in my oppinion.

Dustin Brown was the same type of player in terms of skill. Brown is physically stronger and was a three time CHL Top Scholastic Award winner, I think. He is an American kid from N.Y. like Higgins and Komisarek and not far from where Hainsey grew up. He had no long term health problems and was expected to go well before the Habs pick. I didn't understand the logic then, and I certainly don't understand it now. IF everything works out well for Kostitsyn, he still won't be a better scorer than Brown.

The pick was also questionable in my eyes, but in my eyes there's nothing wrong with high risk, (very) high payoff.

Brown was made out to become a third liner with skills. I'd rather take a flyer on someone of real potential.

Personally, I think right now, if I could have one or the other, I'd take Brown. He is already an NHL player, for one thing. If you were giving prospects ratings on both upside potential and safety/probability of making it, I could see:

Kostitsyn - 8.5 upside + 6.0 safety
Brown - 7.5 upside + 8.0 safety

It's reasonably close, but I'll take Brown, and I would think hard about Carter and Getzlaf too, or Parise, maybe a few others. But I'm not disappointed with the pick. It would be like this year, if the Habs took Korpikoski instead of Chipchura... well... Chipchura was the one I wanted, but Korpikoski would be okay too. At least we didn't take Robert Nilsson!
