Two-way forward with clutch scoring ability and plays the left wing. Assuming he could stay healthy, he could be had at below market value due to his injury past, but obviously thats the big question mark.
I also thought I heard that. TB needs to spend some money on Stamkos and I thought I heard due to cap situations they would have to let Gagne walk?? Not 100% sure though
Laich is better and I don't see Yzerman letting Gagne go.
They need to re-sign Stamkos to a big contract and I bet Gagne is waiting until July 1st to see if he gets a better deal (longer contract). I would actually prefer him over Jagr even if it does take more money. I don't think Jagr can score 40 goals, 30+ assists in one season on anyone's wing. He can also play on the right wing.
I also think Jussi Jokinen would be less of a risk, but that's just me. He can score 20+ goals, 40 assists if he's with Datsyuk. He's not a bad shootout guy either.
And Laich is nothing like Gagne IMO. Laich would be a good third line center to have, but I don't think we can afford too many $4 million players. If we can get rid of Hudler in any way...

I think 5m is too much for Gagne and it wouldn't work, we have a bonus carry over of like 550k from Salei and Modano.
Thats a pipe dream anyway. Maybe we sign 1 of Gagne/Laich but Holland won't sign more than 1 Forward unless its we lose Eaves who he will just replace with an Eaves type.
Also I only see Hudler being moved in a package for like Bogosian or another Defensemen.
Gagne would be a nice add to this team, imo. I would like to trade for bogo too. Hudler plus plus plus would probably be a start since bogo has a lot of potential. I would do a hudler, nestrasil and either a 2013 first and 2012 second or a 2012 second and 2013 second. I would thing gagne would sign for two or three years for about 3.5 to 4.2 with bonuses for 35 goals or more and at least 70 game avearge per season.
^^ Gagne ain't scoring 35 goals. He's got injury problems too. Not a bad signing if he comes for 4ish million, but more than that is alot of money to tie up in a guy with as many problems as he's had in the last few seasons.
A 2year 6-7 million deal would be the most I would offer him. But he still doesn't address our need for a proper right handed right winger.
They're not going to sign 2 forwards. They can afford Gagne if Yzerman let's him walk or if he wants to move on. I'd rather have Laich, but I don't think Washington will let him go.
you have to give up to get and i would rather bogosian over sheahan anyday of the week.
top 3 dman now vs 3rd line checking forward maybe 4 years down the road
3rd liner is the floor for Sheahan. If he gets an offensive role, or when he turns pro and plays in a better system, he could turn into a 60 point guy who can hit and play defense. Sheahan isn't going to be traded for Bogosian, even if the Jets still want to move him. If his issues were with the old coaching staff and/or front office, there's no reason to move him now.
Gagne would be a good risk for a 2 year deal I think. He's had injury problems but he still adds offense and I think he's it in the Wings system really well. Plus he doesn't score by sacrificing defense like some over the hill Czech people have been suggesting they sign.
If they trade for a defenseman, I think Yandle is going the be the target, assuming Phoenix decides that they won't be able to sign him to a deal they like. If it happens, I don't think it'll happen until mid season.
On Laich: Screw that.
We don't need another 3rd liner pretending to be a second liner.
Plus he's a center.
I get the need to be bigger and tougher. But we've already got too many borderline scoring line guys on this team

I really hope we do trade for yandle,
filppula, kindl plus a 2nd rd pick in 2012 for yandle
- then sign gagne to a two year deal around 4 million
- then sign joel ward to a three year deal around 2.5 million
- then sign wisnewski at 4 million for 4 years
- then sign garon at 1.2 million for two years
- then sign andy greene for three years at 1.5 million or resign eriksson
- look to trade hudler for a pick/prospect from a team like ottawa, florida, colorado or carolina, NYI who need to reach the cap floor
- alot of cap space left to either bump up some of those salaries or save it for the season to either make a trade or wait for the trade deadline
- lots of flexability created for summer 2012 with the knowledge your top 4 dman will be locked up and lidstrom, hudler, bertuzzi, holmstrom all coming off the books
